VW TDI Emissions Software 'Fix'
Discussion
I'm so excited, I've just had a message from my dealer asking to call him about fixing my foul and filthy planetkiller 2.0 TDi Passat, after which it will no doubt emit sweet vapours and fragrances.
So, has anyone actually had this done and what sort of performance hit can I expect, or will I probably not notice it in a six-year-old average-mileage commuter special.

Just had my second letter from SEAT, telling me that my car is due a fix sometime in Q3/4. Consists of mesh being fitted in front of the airflow meter to moderate airflow, think that's it. The 2lt engines get a ECU flash only, mines the 1.6tdi so don't know if the ecu is touched. I'll be over 100k at that point, was hoping for replacement injectors as part of the fix, but no luck ...

It will be re-mapped, slower, less efficient, but blow flowers out the exhaust!
Not what my dealer tells me , Performance unaffected .
Fuel consumption unaffected.
So if that is the case , why were the new settings not incorporated at the manufacturing stage ?
My Tiguan, has as yet not been done , and according to my dealer the “updates” are not ready
At least VAG are no longer the villains , it seems ALL manufactures are at it , Mitsubishi admitted just today that they have been fiddling results for some 25 years
VW Press release on Friday stated:
The Volkswagen passenger car brand is starting the technical modification of vehicles affected with engine type EA 189.
The first model that customers will be soon able to make a service appointment for is the Golf TDI BlueMotion Technology (BMT) with a 2.0 litre engine.
In Europe around 15,000 affected Golf cars with a manual gearbox are being called to the workshops.
Further Volkswagen passenger car brand models will follow shortly in the recall process.
Hi all
unfortunatly we had the recall done on our Passat 2011 2.0tdi in july and have spent the last 3½ Months trying to get the old software put back...
the problems since recall include an annoying rattle / clatter from the engine 1000-1500rpms. slight power loss again 1000-1500rpms, the DPF is regenerating every 150 miles, and economy is slightly worse overall. we have close family friends who drive VW and have suffered engine failure due to the new software, one got stranded in Spain and the other was driving the M1 home on a friday when he lost all power. both have had to pay in excess of £1800 to get the engine put right.
we have also had the invite from Audi for the A4 but there is NO WAY it is getting the recall done. the A4 was in for service last week and i made sure the dealers understood NOT to do the recall. they seemed OK about it but before i took the car in i made laminated notices "DO NOT DO EMISSIONS RECALL" and taped one ober the obd port one over the steering wheel and the other i hadned in with the key.
taken the passat to 2 different dealers and both have done the same routine...read error codes (none found) and re-run the emissions software and neither dealer made any difference. emails have been sent to VW customer service and waited 6 weeks for a reply, only to be asked for information that was in the original email (if they read it) just to waste time!!!. they have said at the dealers thet the old software cannot be put back.
looks like only one option... a re-map. not looking for more power just returned to what it was. i have read about Quantum remaps, annd reviews seem good. anyone had any experience of them? would value any opinions.

The software comes online from Germany. They cannot put it back to how it was.unfortunatly we had the recall done on our Passat 2011 2.0tdi in july and have spent the last 3½ Months trying to get the old software put back...

And btw. NO customer has had engine failure as a result of the software update. Yes, you will get worse fuel economy. And less performance. But it wont cause rattles at low rpm and it wont kill it.

I remember a while ago problems attributed to faulty injectors were dismissed by VAG , only for VAG cars with 2ltr engines be subject to a VOSA recall .So if your source is VAG , where is the salt pot ?
A simple change to idle speed could excite the DM flywheel to rattle , and if it rattles then early failure could follow .
So the “simple fix “ is not so simple

A lot of Tiguan owners are reporting rattles at low RPM. I think they're on the 3rd version of the update now.Afternoon,
Just had the letter from VW (and interestingly allegedly with the involvement of the the DVLA) to have the EA 189 emissions fix on the Wife's 10 plate 2.0l TDI 4motion.
Spoke to VW and it's not legally required so am unsure what to do really, any recent experience of the fix / thoughts?
