Just ordered a 1290 Superduke R. It's an unregistered 2015 model.

I took a Monster S out for a spin, but the Superduke blew me away. Better than the Duc in every regard (for me at least) I need that power in my life!

Picking it up in a week or two, I'm so bloody excited!!

Got an Akrapoviç exhaust, heated grips, tail tidy and short levers too.

Does anyone do any luggage racks for it though? I've got soft Ortlieb panniers, that I'd like to use if possible!

A mate of mine has one, with the full Akra system on it and it is stunning and he loves it. With all the computers turned off it wheelies everywhere.
I would love one but they are out of my budget.

Enjoy! I'm very jealous

Excellent choice. I was blown away by my demo ride last summer.
It rides very much like my SMT but with more of everything. More engine, more brakes and the added bonus of more electronic safety stuff.
Bonkers engine in a bikers looking bike smile,

It's the only bike I'm considering swapping the RC8 for. But the RC8 is a very different machine and thrills in different ways.

Please post up pics.

Very nice, I had the older (though updated) version of the SD, loved it! Where did you get it from?

It's only on the South Coast... Hardly thousands of miles away in a perennially sunny part of the world!

I'll weigh in now I've had a test ride. I didn't get long, probably 45 minutes tops but it was on roads I knew. Was super comfy after riding my 1098R BUT I think as a result of riding that first, the KTM didn't have any grunt low down (the 10/1198 motors are stonking from idle!) but above 7k it came alive and a nice annoying shift lift? kept coming on which was irritating. I tried it straight off in full power mode and didn't bother with the other modes but my overall feeling was it needed the grunt it has from 7k up from idle, my only real complaint.

Clocks were nicely laid out, menu settings were easy enough. The brembo M50 brakes were mega while I remember! Obviously the bike looks the business but I got off and it just seemed okay and nothing special, which I guess jumping straight off a 1098R you can probably understand but I still feel if I rode my K5 down it wouldn't seem worth the 15k list price.

I cam back to the dealer and told him the above and he was surprised and said I'm the first person to say it. I would like to get more time on it but after blatting about today on my 690SMCR, I think KTM just do supermotos so well nothing really comes close after that. Someone tell me I'm crazy!

Looking to try an Aprilia Tuono and BMW S1000R now. I have a test ride booked on the GSX1000-S for Sunday so I'll see how that compares.

Gratuitous pics:

I liked it, but not for 14k. ( although you should be able to buy one for 12k if you're not in a hurry) . I found it comfy but felt it had lost some of its v twin character. ( it doesnt thump like my 950). Even now I'm not sure I'd want to spend that much on a bike to pile the miles on. I just ride the 950, not worrying about keeping it gleaming or anything else like you do with a new bike. Maybe one day when I haven't got my sensible head on.......

See, I had a similar experience coming off my RC8 onto the duke. In reality theres more torque in the 1290 motor, and my RC8 should be about 30hp down. When i got back on it, it felt just as fast. I think it was because the new engine is so much smoother and instead of giving the sensation of thudding hammers on anvils at the bottom end, like a V-twin should- it felt a like propeller in a bag of sick, sort of smooth but with chunky bits.

I think its the refinement that makes it feel slower because in reality Ive never ridden something so easy to go quickly, and I preferred it to the S1000r which left me a little cold in comparison, even though that was a bloody good bike too.

When you test the Tuono I'd suggest going somewhere you can really open it up - I'm totally biased cos I own one, but what separates it for me from the pack of other really good naked bikes is how insanely addictive it is when pushing it a bit, it just launches itself into orbit
