So, after a few years of running the gearbox at near its limits with power, and sticky tyres, it's starting to complain.

What options do I have please?

1) Rebuild
2) Rebuild with upgraded parts?
3) Replace

Has anyone done 2 or 3?

I'm hoping that it will hold together for the summer and I can go from there.... Cheers!

I went for '3' with a TKO 600 conversion and a twin plate clutch.

Hi Don. I've an updated box in mine. Colin should know what it is, as should Woody. As far as I'm aware it was just a straight swap.

Are there any 6 speed gearbox options? A friend had a ls conversion and the 6 speed box in that was so much more positive, smooth and cater to shift. I really don't like the t5. After a rebuild, it feels just as before (except that it didn't pop out of 3rd gear any more!)

I think that's just the general shift quality on the T5 - I know exactly what you mean about the shifting on the six-speed boxes used on LS conversions, they're much more of a "rifle bolt" rather than "pudding stirrer" action. hehe

I *THINK* the TK600 is supposed to have a good shift on it too though and that's a five speed.

Have you considered a Tremec TR 6060?

TKO 600 is about half the size and weight again over a T5 [lot stronger] 6060 is huge, it will go in but more expensive and exhaust route compromised a bit. The change on a 6060 though is just superb. after converting to TKO600 it's nice knowing that when I plant it, the box will hold together. I appreciated the honesty given by T5 builders regarding the torque I have and reassurance given by Perry [77]

That's an early T5 'TVR' box. Later one didn't have that pipework above. Mine didn't.
