There are some very measured, sensible comments in the more recent posts below. It does look like prices are softening a little, albeit there's a wide spread and I'm sure SOR cars are many (and pricey). I for one would like a little more rationality in the market. The rises of the last few years can't be sustainable and result in an obsession with value and these types of car seeing less driving time.

Cars are not magic money making machines on the whole. Go in eyes open, expect depreciation and be delighted if it's less than you thought. If the sun holds, I'm out for a run this afternoon!

Not sure the RPM £225k was totally reflective of the market...it was a PTS car which I'd guess was at least £25k of that price and we don't know what it sold for? There's an RS at an OPC for £185k with the same mileage as the RPM car. PTS has to be the cheapest option ever on these cars!

Don't question that they are definitely very well bid as are the regular 997.2 GT3
I agree the PTS premium illogically drove a huge premium , however I know it didn't go for much less than £K225. Either way , I guess the point I was making is the good ones are not around for very long , there are very few up for sale & they are going for significantly more than a year ago - this is based on three sales I know of in the last few moths . Again , only IMHO , I think the 997.2 RS will become the 2.7 RS of our generation - it may take another 20 years but it will be looked back on as the pinnacle of its time and type (the 4.0 obviously apply the same logic , but even more so)

Complete agree with this. The 997.2 RS and the 4.0 where the "end of an era" type of cars.

Probably the only concern for me is how fast some of these cars have risen in value. I can't see much of a 'fall' on the really special, limited 'yesterday' cars, but do find myself cringing a bit on some of this new stuff. Old stuff - not building anymore. New stuff - still building and bettering.

Sorry but , just for the sake of accuracy ; 997.2 3.8 RS isn't falling - only a week or so one went for £K225 and two others went for over £k 185 very recently : last year they were £k 160 ish - not that I care either way .
I care!! I recently spent what seemed an obscene sum to secure a perfect low mile unusual spec specimen...
At first the recent sums asked and achieved seem utter madness, especially when ones memory clearly recalls what seems like yesterday, the same mildly used 3.8 RS fetching mid to late 90k's (if you were lucky !) Still it's all relative in the desirable automotive food chain....

At £225k pretty much the cross over point with the 991RS.
Hmm - last week I placed a little bet with my mate. A fiver says that in 18 months you will require more loot to secure a Gen 2 997 RS's than a 991 RS

Hope I'm right .... Biased ? Too right I am. I wouldn't of done what I did.

Completely agree with this. The 7.2RS is a nailed on classic and rightly so.

I also have a sneaking suspicion we may not see another n/a GT3 RS. Maybe a 991.2 GT3 with n/a and a manual option, then a GT2 RS with bonkers turbo power and then it will be hybrids/turbos after that. N/a just can't keep up these days I'm afraid. Just speculation that's probably wide of the mark but who knows......

As for the 997.2RS vs. the 991RS, it's probably best to hedge and have one of each.....

If there is a na manual 991.2 GT3, the na RS will likely follow.

GT2RS before any new GT3s
