Hi all,

I'm struggling to find four matching tyres for the Cerb, I have RL7s so 235/40/17 at the front and 245 or 255s on the rear. I'm tempted by Yokohama AD08Rs, but can't seem to find rears very easily, and if so the load rating differs to those at the front. Does this make much difference? Any other recommendations?

Cheers.

I cant help, sorry - but this does make me wonder if getting hold of tires for RLs will be impossible in the future? Mine need a refurb but I dont know whether to buy new wheels that tires are easy to buy for.

Am I worrying about nothing?

Seemed to have no problems at all buying Eagle F1's and they feel great.

When were they manufactured though?! I bet a while ago.. 235/40 isn't a current size tbh..

You can however move to 225/45 which gives loads of options.

I've always used eagle F1's

MyTyres say they have them
www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=110&ca...

Are they not available then? Should I panic buy and stockpile a set?

Thing is with that is aging..

I just checked Protyre (who only stock tyres for 180 days), and they only offer a Falken and Kumho in that size, which says to me any you find will be old stock..

Whats the difference with aging on the car or stored off the car?

Stored off the car, in the dark, and cool damp conditions (iirc) is better, but rubber still ages.

Serious question - is there a time limit as these cars tend to have minimal mileage so tyres may be 2-4 years old or is it because they are occasionally used it's ok?

I have a friend from Germany, who said they change them every 4yrs regardless.. Tbh, I would keep an eye on them and look for aging/perishing starting. My tyres were manufactured in 2011 and still look ok. Although even if they look ok, they could still have hardened. Fresh tyres do grip best, so I might look at changing them in the next 12 months.

I run 235/40/17s front and 255/40/17s rear on RL7s with Toyo R1Rs which have fabulous grip.

I have never had a problem with obtaining tyres in these sizes.

I run AD08R's in those sizes and have nothing but praise for them. Re stock I found that the supply for the rears can be patchy, obviously more commonly used, but found that checking a week later all was well with stocks. The good things was when fitted I noted they were within weeks of the manufacture date so definitely not old stock!

Cheers.
Higher load rating will mean stiffer sidewall.

Yes and no.. The Cerb is light so a softer sidewall will be different to having a soft sidewall on say an M5..

Lol yes and no..... I find that soft side wall means the fronts can tuck up under cornering and the rears can buckle under hard acceleration... Had GY F1's on a previous TVR and found the above, had to put more pressure in, than would be considered normal to compensate. Hateful tyre IMHO.

Strange. I like the f1', run them at 24psi, very good and predictable in the wet, great in the dry. Not as sticky as Tokyo r1, but last a lot longer

AD08R for me on both my cars, can't fault them apart from the price, and now even that can be mitigated if you know the right trader.
