Wierd ethernet connection issues with BT HH5
Discussion
Hi
I have a BT HH5 and it has been working really well for the past 18 months or so. I normally have my media server, Xbox one and Sky plus HD box connected via ethernet. I also have loads of stuff connected via 2.4 and 5ghz wifi.
Today I came home from work and found that, whilst all the Wifi stuff works, the media server and the Sky box are not connected. The Xbox one is still working fine over ethernet, but the other wired devices don't connect. I have both reset and 5min powered off the HH5, with no change.
In the manager page, the HH5 only sees the Xbox one and none of the other devices. I have swapped ports and the Xbox remains connected whichever port it is plugged into and the other two don't.
Perhaps related (perhaps not) we did have a big clap of lightening (just the one) earlier in the day. Not sure if it hit the house or not, but no lights flickered and nothing went off. I have a surge protecting multi adapter which all the kit is plugged into. The Xbox would have been on standby (along with the sky box) and the media server would have been on. When I checked the kit out, the media server (old laptop) was turned off. It turned back on fine.
Do you think the lightening fried some of my kit? The server still works, as does the sky box, but neither will connect over ethernet. The media server connects over wifi (sky box is old non-wifi model).
Any ideas??? I have had a quick google search but had no luck.
Sorry for the long post.
Thanks
Lewis

Hmmm well at a guess, it sounds like the hh isnt dishing out ip addresses,
Again, you have probably tried this but power everything off, access the home hub and completley reset it back to factory settings.
Power up the home hub and let it stabilise, and then power up each device after that.
Other than that, it could well be a dead HH.

Hi
Yeah, the media laptop is back up and running on Wifi. I might see if I can get sky to supply a new box. I was thinking of leaving anyway and might use that as leverage to get a new box if I can (in lieu of trying to get a discounted package). I will take the media laptop to my parents house and try on their router just to be sure.
I guess perhaps the lightening did kill them! Its the only thing that I can think of that happened the same day that they both died. One of my son's friends had their internet die after the same event (apparently, which he told me today) so... well bummer really!
