That's the better side taken off. Dread to think what the other side is going to look like.headache

As thought the other side was worse. The tubes will be cut further up than shown.

Hi Barrie,
Those out riggers are worse than mine and they were pretty scarey.
Are you doing the outriggers with the body still on? I took the body off to do mine and then sent the chassis to RT racing for repair. When he sand blasted the chassis he found that the near side top chassis tube was made of lace just at the point where the suspension pick up point was. I had battered this area with a hammer and it showed no signs of weakness, but once sand blasted the chassis showed the full horror of metal worm.
Needless to say it cost an extra £250 to sort it out but at least I know it's right.
Just to say while your at this point it's worth checking everything else is top notch, not just the out riggers.
Good luck with your project, It will be worth all your effort.
Paul.

It's a 1998 car. I thought the off side would be worse and they were, strange really as the near side runs closer to the gutter.
They going to be replaced by 3mm chromealloy(sp) with the body still on, just one hole cut in the floor to get to the centre tube. Will also be putting on braces from the outriggers to the chassis for seat mountings.
I have rubbed the main frame down to bare metal and had it looked at by a professional restorer and all is goodwoohoo

Lovely job, i still cant believe the outriggers rust that badly especially when these cars dont see that much rain.

1998 was some of TVR'S busiest years they cut corners especially with the chassis to keep up production levels. It was very hit and miss whether you got a good chassis or not? Some chassis from that year that l have seen are in fine fettle.

The main chassis is absolutely spot on, the outriggers were completely and absoloutly fooked. 2-3 inches from the main chassis down is untouched by rust. We were talking today at the workshop, the worst part is that if the car was put in for an MOT it would have passed. Scary when you think that the seat belts would have failed and the rest would have been down to 1/2" bolts going through fibre glass.

I see in some old photos of the factory on another thread that there were a lot of prepped chassis outside in the elements.
