Alarm & CCTV advice

I recently bought a new car and am beginning to be more security concious, a neighbour had their home broken into at night a few months ago and both cars were stolen. I live in a new housing estate, so not out in the sticks

As ever, I want to keep the costs to a minimum.

I have Wifi but share next doors code so don't have access to the router or telephone line.

If a fully wireless system the best option?

Any advice and tips would be greatly welcomed!
