Anyone know this. Went to see one yesterday and it hadn't been serviced in some cases for 25k. Too long in my mind!

Walk away my friend !!!!!the Turbo will be maybe compromised they blow so easily.Never mind the timing chain issue whith this engine that will really feel those long intervals.

Whenever you have an urge to buy this car find a wall and bash head rythmically until the feeling goes smile

Just no - walk away!

That is way beyond the manufacturer recommended intervals, so if it all goes horribly wrong the car may well be scrap!

Someone on here posted before BMW got generous/realistic about N47 cam-chain issues and he had already scrapped his car! yikes

I shifted my 123d at 81K miles (with full BM FSH) before it went bang - and before they started to pick up the tab for cars serviced by main agents on time!

Unless you get it REALLY cheap............!

Walk away.

My son has a 20009 one - he has ran it from 52K miles to about 78K miles.

The service interval seems to be variable at around 18-20K. We found that the oil was degrading long before that and also the car has a propensity to use oil. So you could very easily end up with a situation whereby the car has run low on degraded oil!

He gets his done "on schedule" with BMW at 18K ish miles (to maintain the FBMWSH should there be timing chain problems), however we do an oil and filter at 9K with a local indie and the oil needs checked every couple of weeks and topped up occasionally.

I'm going to see a 123d with 80k on tomorrow, any tips? Thanks

Sorry, too late!

I bought my Sep 07 reg in Jan 08 as a pre-reg with less than 20 recorded miles!

Sold it in July 2014 at 81K miles (partly because I was bored, partly because of N47 cam-chain issues that BMW wouldn't necessarily pay for at that time)! And I went straight 6 N/A petrol (just wish I had tried a 130i before I got the 123d).rolleyes What was I thinking FFS?

BMW do seem to pick up the N47 cam-chain tab now subject to BMW FSH (and the power of the web probably)!

Other than that concern it was a good car - all I had other than routine items (servicing and tyres) was a battery (AGM and programmed into the car software so about £300 fitted once the software was reprogrammed to tell it there was a new battery!?) furious then a starter motor (£600+) - so if you do buy one turn off the stop/start every time you go out (default setting for stop/start is "ON").

Got to 81K on original brakes and wiper blades, so not all bad!

A 120d 177 will be a facelift so N47 engine complete with the potential cam-chain issues, but BMW did offer a 20 bhp upgrade on that which would be a better car than the 123d (201 bhp) because the 120d had higher gearing (123d was lower geared to make it seem quicker than it was) - should have got a 130i though banghead

Sorry, my reply to another question seems to have gone onto here.?!

Anyway 25K is way too long! I had a 320td for 3 years and a 123D for 6+ years and they needed servicing every 15K or so. If used less the interval is 2 years.

Given that the 120d 177 (N47 engine) also has cam-chain issues - do you feel lucky?

ETA - But with the benefit of hindsight a 120d (single turbo) is a better option than the 123d (twin-turbo) as the gearing is better for economy, and BMW did offer a 20bhp upgrade on the 120d which I expect could still be added retrospectively.

Good luck anyway! (Mind you now I don't do high miles I would only contemplate a 130i)!
