Driveshaft Boot
Discussion
Hoping someone can help. I have a 2015 Academy car and need to replace a drive shaft boot. Trouble is Caterham are out of stock and do not know when they will be in. I can replace the whole shaft but seems a terrible waste of money for a split boot.
Pretty sure it's a ford boot that is needed but unsure which one. Someone did tell me they thought it use to be a sierra shaft. Anyone know?
Many thanks in advance :-)

It is a Ford boot, the shaft is a cut down one. I used to carry a spare set. Changing the boot is a real pain, you have to get the shaft out, pull the bearing off the shaft and then when you put it all back together, have to pin the tin.
Think its a cosworth boot, but its been years since I did it.

Thanks Casbar, I have changed a boot once already. It wasn't so bad to do. Think I had the last boot in stock and now cant get another for ages. The boots can take a beating when racing. Just need to locate another source for the boots.Think its a cosworth boot, but its been years since I did it.
It's not from anything - it's a GKN joint (they stopped being Sierra derived a very long time ago). We don't have any new ones in stock, but if you're desperate we have good used ones.
FWIW it's *very* rare for them to split unless it's rubbing on something or hit something in a shunt.

Sent you an email Stuart. I've had two split on different cars and a fellow competitor has just had theirs split. Nothing is rubbing as I've checked. FWIW it's *very* rare for them to split unless it's rubbing on something or hit something in a shunt.

As said above go to your nearest motor factor send someone else if you are shy but they won't bite honest [ the caterham parts only myth is still with us ?] . You could/should buy the fitting cone which allows fitting both bots onto a drive shaft with out stripping the shaft !
Why on earth would you think I'm shy one eye?Gassing Station | Caterham | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
