Hi doeas anybody wear trainers made for riding bikes? I have seen some Alpine Star ones that have a high ankle for protection and support but they look narrow, any suggestions, I want something light weight, easy to take off and on but with some protection

Bike magazine this month review loads of kit and included a pair of trainer-type boots. Haven't got the mag in front of me but I think they said they were ok as long as it stayed dry. Maybe worth digging out a copy.

I've had a pair of Alpinestars Joeys in the past and I currently have a pair of Dainese Street Bikers, both are very good in the rain. The Dainese boots are definitely a step up in quality and fit though.

Cheap and cheerful option is surly the RST trainer ones? They're CE marked and £65.

I wouldn't expect them to last long at that price but presumably they're for light work anyway.

I used to ride in shorty boots and will do again come summer, don't think I'd go as low as a trainer though as I'd want ankle protection.

liked the RST stunt heel boots, but didn't like the fast they were pu coated leather. They have now release a stunt pro which is full grain leather, not as aggresive looking but should be better quality.

Dainese do a good selection of short boots too, the SSC Bravo are incredibly comfortable and waterproof at the expense of protection but twice the price of the cheap RST boots and now discontinued. I founs the SSC Alpha/Dyno uncomfortable as they were really narrow and stiff around the ankle.

Alpinestars short boots seem to look huge on, not tried any of the more trainer like styles though

I've got Alpinestars SMX-1 boots for summer with jeans. Very comfy, don't look too much like moon-boots, very easy to put on and take off. I really like them.
