997 GTS - Hexagon
Discussion
Manual has the draw for me because my daily driver has been a torque converter automatic (well since I sold my SMG equipped E46 M3 back in 2004) and I just really enjoy a) the short throw box mine has b) executing "heal and toe" gear changes and c) I think the GTS with the Powerkit engine just enjoys revs that little bit more than the standard Carrera S and I think it suits the car better because of that.

Going out in peoples car sluring into bends in 4th and changing down after the bend to 3rd, gives me the shivers !!
I see this on a daily basis whilst out with customers in their cars, a lot of people do forget the art of driving and being in the correct / ideal gear once they have a car fitted with a Auto (PDK, DCT, SMG, DSG etc). I still have a couple of manual cars that I use including a 1967 Fiat 500 which demands the skills of driver to select & execute good gear changes! I've read comments from people a few times saying the 997 GTS isn't special enough for a weekend car. Most of those people drive a GT4/3 or Spyder of some sort. Now whilst I think we all know those cars dynamically are more capable than the GTS there's an awful lot to be said for the buzz of driving a car nearer to the edge of its performance envelope...and in my year of ownership I can't ever say I've felt like I was running out of grip or the car feels slow. But then I drive on UK B roads and country lanes mostly. Oh and because I can take both kids in it it gets used more than any GT car would.

So lets see how long this GTS lasts for....A 997.2 GTS 4 PDK with 26,000 miles priced at £64,995 and 911V don't usually flex much on prices...
So that's the current retail for a 4wd PDK car with average spec and 26k miles!

The 911V 4GTS was mine prior to selling to them. I think they could have arguably asked more, as could I from them, however I believe both prices were very fair, and hence why it sold quickly. Clearly if I'd sold it to Hexagon then it would have been marketed at 70-75k, but would probably still be on their website in 3 months time (or even longer).
The car was in absolute excellent condition, so hope the new owner has as much fun in it as I did (on the limited occasions I used it).
Re prices, I'd suggest they are 'holding'. I think they will continued to do so, and maybe increase slightly as there is nothing in the same price bracket that is worth the switch to. You have to add another 25k-50k in my eyes for a worthwhile upgrade.
Did you change the GTS for something else? The car was in absolute excellent condition, so hope the new owner has as much fun in it as I did (on the limited occasions I used it).

tempted by one...like the idea of getting back into a "fun" 911
but are GTS's really worth 50% more than C2S, now into 997.2 Turbo money.....
I guess the marker is they are still only 60% the price of a GT3
It's definitely got more to it than an "S" but also is certainly not a GT3...so is probably priced about right!but are GTS's really worth 50% more than C2S, now into 997.2 Turbo money.....

If you're thinking about a GTS4 with PDK like the car above then a Turbo has to be under consideration...if its a GTS2 with Manual you're after a Turbo isn't really a comp IMHO.

blooming heck - prices seem to have shot up
A friend of mine sold his for £55k in May/June this year.
2011 cab GTS (sub 25k miles) , one prev owner (he was second), great spec. He only had it 5 months (replaced it with a Ferrari) but in that time he added 2 new tyres, big service and 2 years of Porsche warranty.
I don't think trade prices are that much higher than that now trade bid two or three months ago was in the £56/57k area. A friend of mine sold his for £55k in May/June this year.

Seems that the only jump in prices applies to low mileage, manual cars. OPC have a 13k mile manual in for just shy of £76k..
Shame about the seats I would have thought it would have had sports seats at the least! c4sman said:
So, as this is a value thread, i have a (possibly silly) question.
is there any historic data that shows that cars that have depreciated very slowly for a long time at a certain price point, can suddenly depreciate quickly when a general market changes.
I know that cars can inflate and then deflate (e.g. in financial crashes and when they have been overly inflated), but any evidence when something has sat at a steady sensible price point for a long time that it can significantly drop for one reason or another?
We're in unprecedented times....there is no parallel moment. Sure there was a late 80's boom but that was very much confined to Classics and Exotics....and it didn't really impact relatively normal cars. is there any historic data that shows that cars that have depreciated very slowly for a long time at a certain price point, can suddenly depreciate quickly when a general market changes.

There are plenty that believe that when interest rates return to what we used to perceive as normal that car prices among other inflated asset prices will come off.
I've been involved in the world of investment for thirty years which is a relatively brief snapshot I suppose but in that time no asset class has increased in price by 1000% (which cars like the 2.7RS have in the last ten to fifteen years) and not had a correction.
Buy a car to enjoy it! A 997 GTS is a great car and whilst I don't think it's going to go up in massively in value I also don't think even if the market has a massive correction you are going to lose huge amounts of value. In the world of investments we talk about things having intrinsic value....a 997 GTS is a modern car thats fantastic to drive can be used as your daily mode of transport and is relatively cheap to maintain. There are an awful lot of cars that are fetching huge money now which are none of those things......

Sorry to hear this. Our thoughts are with you and your family, it must be harrowing for you.
Thank you for your support, it is a difficult thing to come to terms with, but we are taking councilling and hope to recover from this most vile affliction. Mine has a few that you don't
Adaptive Seats
Isofix in front seat (rare but very useful as I can turn off the Airbag when I have kids in the car)
Illuminated Sills
Home Link
Cruise (quite common)
5 stud wheels is rare!
I wish my car had Sports PASM with LSD and buckets would be pretty cool!
I have the full price list( snaffled last week on eBay) The guy that ordered yours certainly went to town on the interior!

Great spec GTS just come up on auto trader. 2wd, manual, short shift, sports chassis with LSD and most importantly no PDD for the owner! High mileage so I think it's expensive at £57k but great usable car. If you can buy that for closer to 50 than 60 would be a good buy,
