I need to replace 1 of my 18" rears, currently a Pilot sport 3 run flat - the other 3 corners have around 6mm left.
I can either opt for a single pilot run flat at just over £200 for the corner.
The other option is to bite the bullet (cheaper on a per corner basis) and replace all 4 for non run flats. Pilot sport 3s come in about £360 all in or Uniroyal Rainsport 3s a little cheaper.

Just wandering what people recommend on this era (2007) of 3 series or thoughts on the best way to go.

Why not look for a part-worn tyre to match the other 3? And when they are all ready for replacement, get some nice non-runflat tires fitted.

If were to change them all I would be going for Conti S/C 5s.

Look at the "all tests" tab under the specific tyre on tyrereviews.com

I would change all 4 for non run flats.

Then sell the part worns. You will probable get £60 a tyre on eBay.

I'm running Conti SC5's all round on mine and it's a very good tyre. Have previously used Eagle F1's. Think the Contis are a little softer than the Goodyear or Michelin PS3, but have great grip in the wet and are fairly quiet. Ride comfort is obviously way better than on RFT's too.

Definitely replace run flats.

How much more are michelin pilot sport 4's, than the 3s, I had them on my 335i wit 17s (this year) and found them awesome , much better from every perspective than Michelin Pilot Supersports (bought about a year earlier on the sock 19s)

I have a daily drive, E46 on 18s and have continentals, I actually don't like the grip in the wet.

Thanks all – that’s a good shout on the change to non RF and selling the remaining 3 part worns, though I’m not keen on PWs for myself.
I’ll look up the Contis, any thoughts on the rainsports or non run flat versions of the Pilot sports?

I've been running Vredestein Sessantas for a good while but they've now switched to Ultrac Vorti. Very good tyre for the moneny.

However, because there was a good price on Blackcircles very recently I've just had Goodyear F1 Assymmetric 2 fitted on the rear. Definitely worth a look - decent noise levels, good grip wet and dry.

Personally I;ve never liked Contis - hard, noisy and don't offer enough grip. We've just switched the rears on our 125i from Conti RFTs to the GY F1 Assymm 2 RFT and again it's a notable improvement in noise, feel, ride quality and grip levels.
