upset tummy

Morning I am having a problem with my 3 year old male Akita he gets an upset stomach for no reason at all one minute he is fine the next I am getting up to let him out ( which is getting a bit draining as I have to be up at 3.30am!)he is on james wellbeloved turkey and vegetables with a little boiled chicken or white fish/tuna I have been down the boiled chicken and rice route/scrambled eggs I have gone from 2 meals a day to 3 smaller ones which seemed to work but we are now back to square one we are due at the vets today for his mot and boosters and will mention the problem but don't really want to go down the antibiotic route as I am sure this will only be a short term cure any suggestions or potions will be much appreciated.

He should not have injections when he is not well. The WSAVA guidelines clear on that IIRC as well as the inserts.

Has he managed to eat anything dodgy whilst on a walk at all?
Have you checked the kibble back is not mouldy or anything like that?

I'd agree not vaccinate until you know the cause of diarrhoea. If it is dietary and can be controlled via diet then vaccinating will be fine.

I would get him onto a diet of sweet potato and a Fish like trout for a few weeks and nothing else. It will mean a lot of cooking potatoes etc but I had an owner with a boxer who had chronic diarrhoea bouts and poor weight gain. They did this for 6 weeks and then very slowly introduced a fish based Orijen dry food and never looked back (they were able to change to Barking heads in the end)

If the Vet finds no obvious reason (eg temp etc then antibiotics may not be the advised route but that would be your vet ad you to discuss) also a pre/prebiotic, one called Fortiflora is a one a day sachet for at least 30 days to correct the gut flora (especially important if antibiotics are used)

Thanks everyone vet took his temp and gave him a going over all ok and he has put on weight since last visit now 52kg he had his boosters and I have given him his wormers and he has eaten so vet recommended a bland diet so will keep him on white fish/scrambled eggs boiled chicken and see how it goes thanks again.

Try some prokolin or similar. It is a probiotic and can help with stomach upsets. Keep an eye out for blood in faeces, the dog becoming 'unwell' etc. How long has it been going on for? If a while X-rays, ultrasound maybe worth while. Bland diet like your vet said, fresh clean water. If you are worried make sure you take back to your vet asap. hope this helps

I forgot to say you could Always get his stools tested for certain bugs etc that can cause on off diarrhoea.
