high level brake light

I fitted this 48 LED one for CBS. I cut the tabs off with a dremel and used a bead of black silicone sealant to attach it to the underside of the rollbar. I then ran the lead down the bar and into the boot using a long vertical strip of black electrical tape to both fix it and hide it. This all worked perfectly

Same bar a 2mm hole in the roll bar which allowed me to thread the wire hidden into the boot.I've just done mine this week
Sub loom from Caterham parts £13.50 inc post
Quality metal clad red led £ 9 inc post
Bonded the led to the underside of roll over bar so hood can still be attached if rqd
Bonded using clear silicon ..feels very secure
Works well and looks a neat job...total time for job was less than an hour.

Have a look at all options and consider how you use the car before jumping to the bar type.
I bought a round one from Maplin and fitted it just below the top of the rollbar (I made a small mount out of acrylic). I can't see it in the rear view mirror, but it has the advantage of being visible though the half hood (and doesn't interfere with it it either).

thanks all. Seems like both can be fitted to work with half hood (and fully hood is no problem then either, I assume). Is the bar or the round one brighter, does anyone know? Am wanting it so that people see me braking as clearly as possible!
(just upgraded sidelights to Philips led - huge difference so that helps daylight visibility too!)

No idea about the bar but the round one is very bright - so bright in fact that it's a good idea to put in a resistor to to dull it slightly as not to blind people behind you!(just upgraded sidelights to Philips led - huge difference so that helps daylight visibility too!)
Did the philips LEDs require any extra wiring or were they a direct replacement? Do you have a link to them by any chance?

no resistor, just plug and play, night to day :-)

I used the square LED rain light which was already fitted on the rollbar cross over. Ran a feed from the brake light switch in the pedal box to the manual rain light switch on the dash, with a diode in series to prevent the brake lights coming on when the rain light is switched. Now works as a rain light and/or a brake light. The cross on the rollbar is a good location because the light is not much bigger than the steel tubes are already.
