So I have been looking at a 996 and the car appears to have different build codes on the sticker under the bonnet and in the service book than the physical car has. I know it is possible to retrofit options but I wondered how likely that was. Details of differences below:

Build codes are there for the following:

XMF – Leather front centre console - Car has body colour console (Black) but leather would have been light grey so I can understand a change
XSC – Porsche crest embossed in headrests - Cannot see that the embossing is actually there?
265 - Automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror and rain sensor - how do I identify they are there from photos?
266 - Automatic anti-dazzle door mirrors - how do I identify they are there from photos?

Car has the following fitted but not on build codes:

650 - Sunroof - I appreciate this is standard in a C16 car but normally listed?
424 - CD compartment - An easy retrofit
PCM2 (codes 665 & 670?) - Possible to retrofit I guess?
Phone (codes 666 & 668?) - Physical handset in passenger footwell, fitted with above I guess
680 - Bose - Strikes me as hard to retrofit?
454 - Cruise Control - An easy retrofit

Everything else seems straight, the above just seems odd - would you be concerned or is it common to have different items fitted to the build codes (another car I looked at had PSE retrofitted for instance)?

Any assistance much appreciated!

The stickers in the handbook and the car match I assume?

If they don't match the car, and the Bose and PCM options seem to be the ones that flag up for me, I'd be looking for proof (receipts) of the work done to add the options.

The two stickers match and the service stamps align with the MOT history. No receipts for the fitting and it appears OPC computer records that can be checked only started around 2008? Those were the standout items for me too.

Adding Bose and PCM post-delivery will have been expensive, not impossible though. The lack of headrest embossing sounds odd too.

If the service/upkeep receipts show lots of money spent on the car then it's possible a previous owner invested heavily in it. It would be unusual though.

Could of been changed from comfort to sports seats as an example post build?

Bought my 997 a few months ago. The build codes on the VIL in the Service Book do not detail all the spec of my car, it definitely has additional spec. I have been told (not by the OPC) that this is not unusual.

You can get a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche detailing the spec which I intend to do.

Only after you've bought it though - not pre-purchase...

Great news - I finally got hold of supplying dealer and fitted equipment list, which resolves most of the concerns I had:

XMF – Under bonnet sticker had worn and this is XME as in service book (I should have looked there), which is the body colour console fitted to the card
XSC – Porsche crest embossed in headrests - Cannot see that the embossing is actually there still?

Car has the following fitted but not on build codes:

650 - Sunroof - Confirmed on order form
424 - CD compartment - Standard and therefore not on sticker
PCM2 (codes 665 & 670?) - Was factory fitted - strange it isn't listed on sticker
Phone (codes 666 & 668?) - Was factory fitted - strange it isn't listed on sticker
680 - Bose - Was factory fitted - strange it isn't listed on sticker
454 - Cruise Control - Is a retrofit

Apparently first owner collected from the factory; what a nice way to run the car in!
