Damage minimal to mine.

Clio maybe written off. Its an 04 reg. so worth maybe £500 but looked to be in decent nick.

I stopped at traffic lights. Young lad behind didn't!
He was very apologetic then it dawned on him what it will cost in future premiums.
Asked to keep IC out of it but I said I have no idea what damage has been done and also being a lease car I don't want to cut corners.

ETA, Just had the lads father ring me. Asked if I would get quote from the approved repairer but he would pay for repairs.
I have rang the lease company and they have said they are happy to have it repaired by the approved repairer. Is there any difference to me if lads father paying to insurance company paying?

Unlucky mate, doesn't look bad at all though. Get it in writing from the lease company that they are happy for it to be carried out by "REPAIRER" and keep insurance out of it. This may be your golden ticket come hand back time.

If you can get that, then no reason to involve insurance. For both of your sakes.

Didn't think about getting it in writing from Lease Company.
Will give them another ring and ask for an email.
Thanks

Depending on the value of the repair, I would likely ask the lad's father to agree in writing that he is willing to pay, otherwise it could get messy with outstanding costs owed to people on your car when he changes his mind about liability...

Good point.
Going in next week for quote.
Garage has said that they are ok with either going through insurance company or the lads dad paying them direct.
So I will give the dad a call as soon as I know how much and take it from there.
If he agrees I will get him to email it in writing.

Just hope no damage to the chassis.
There's not much gap between it and the bumper hence why the front of the Clio looks like it does.

From your photo the rear bumper looks not to have moved as the gaps to the side all look okay, front ends are designed to deform on impact to absorb energy while the rear end tends to be a little more solid.

About 20 years ago I slid into the back of a neighbours Pug 306 on ice at the end of the road, she (very nice attractive blonde and girlfriend of a former school mate) stopped at the junction while I didn't.

The Pug needed a rear no plate while the BMW I was driving had a Wing, Bonnet, Grilles and a Headlamp, about a grand in parts at the time. frown

Just to update.

Estimate came in at £827 which includes new bumper, rear number plate lights incl. brackets (£100!),paint and labour.
They say it will take 3 days so there's courtesy car insurance also at £10 per day.

Lad's father has agreed to pay the bodyshop a deposit so they can order parts and then start work and settle with them direct when the work is complete.

I have the texts confirming this just in case but he's been accommodating so far.

Will his insurance really go up £800 next year with a claim?

Daddy should realise that it will make no difference at renewal time as when you apply or renew insurance the question is, any accidents within the last x years, regardless of claiming or not.

Of course selective memory can help whistle

His excess is £400 which he will have to pay if through insurance.

They have obviously looked into it and decided it's better to pay for damage themselves.

Also his car would have been written off by the IC.
Not sure if that impacts more on future premiums.

Not bothered either way as long as my car is repaired correctly.

His IC already know.
My IC notified them when I called them about the accident.
At that time I didn't know that the 3rd party were prepared to pay for it themselves.
Its a lease car and I didn't want to delay telling both the IC and the lease company.

He also rang them to ask what happens if the claim is stopped.

If I was the kids Dad there's no way I would pay rather than use the insurance, you might be very nice and accommodating but many amongst our society would screw him over and then suddenly months later put in claims for whiplash and the like.

Not worth the hassle.

Also, who do you go to if the bodyshop does a shoddy job repairing the Leaf? It'll be left for you to wrangle over rather than having an insurance company on side.

Seems to me like it's risky for both parties avoiding doing it through the insurance.

Call my cynical but what happens when the bodyshop completes the work and the third party disappear never to be seen again? They only paid a deposit?

Would've been easier and less risky for all concerned and probably cheaper for the third party to just claim on insurance

He will settle direct with the bodyshop.

I have his details and texts.

I have his address, lad's insurance company etc..

There is trust both ways on this.

I trust him to pay the bill.
He trusts me to not put some whiplash injury claim in later down the line.
