Is it true that northerners now have a Sharp rating on their flat caps? Can you polish a Ducati with a ferret? smile

If you want a particular bike, in a particular spec/condition, you have to sometimes be prepared to travel..and be patient!

The only decent places I know of in the south are Snells in Alton and MotoRapido in Winchester.

Carl Harrison in Norfolk is very good and always has a small selection of low mileage and mint ducatis for sale. He has serviced mine for the last dozen years and can't recommend him highly enough, possibly worth a call....

The list of experts in the south is almost never ending, and includes:

Snells
Moto Rapido
Riders
Luigi Moto
Pro V Twins
Ducati Pro Team

Move to the Midlands

JHP
Cornerspeed
Baines

And sounds like you have found the northern contingent ....

748R I would think, lots of trick bits such as titanium valves and conrods, slipper clutch and Ohlins suspension at both ends.

based on my daily perusals the holy grail is anything thats straight and not been blinged to resemble a jap bike

an r or an sps would be nice but budget wise im restricted to a bip or e

Piece of advice I would give you, is price spread between 748, 916 and 996 is minimal, buy the best of whichever of those you can find in budget as from an insurance and maintenance cost perspective the differences are virtually non existant, the reason I suggest this is that unless you are looking at spcifically an R or SPS then a straight bip in any of the above flavours would be a great buy.

i know that opinion is divided and there is a strong bias towards the homologation bikes in terms of the richness of the experience but in fairness the last bike i rode was an r6 about 8 years back before which i had a cagiva mito evolution! my ducati palate isnt refined enough yet!

interestingly, the spread between a decent E and SPS today is about 1k. much narrower than i thought it would be but i think the gap between buyers and sellers expectations widens as you move beyond the boggo models into the homologation bikes

Indeed there is a bias towards the homologation models but I do not beleive they represent great value from a cost to experience perspective, I say this as someone that has put over 50k on his own 996 Bip and have never felt, either on road or track that it was a 'lesser experience' to such an extent that I wished I had an R etc ...

Buy any of them and you'll love it ..... as I do my 996
