i'm paid weekly on PAYE. I missed my time sheet deadline so was paid 2 weeks in one payment, but my take home is nearly 13% less than a weekly payment and i don't know why?

Any idea why?

You should get this back at the end of the tax year I suspect.

Can someone please explain why this happens? And also why PAYE won't re-adjust itself at next payment?

It's be the NI.

Tax is accumulative through the year whereas NI is a snapshot on just the week/months pay (unless you are a Director).

NI is calculated on your pay packet whether that is weekly or monthly so with double pay more of your pay will attract the higher rate.

Unlike income tax, that doesn't sort itself out by the end of the tax year.

What's your tax code? Does it have W1 or M1 after it?

as others have said

if you are being taxed with a nnnn W1 tax code you'll have been taxed extra because it's a snapshot tax code ( and some agencies in particular are lazy in putting people onto cumulative even if they provide a P45 / it;s the start of the tax year)

NI is a 'snapshot' regardless

lesson to take away = get your timesheets in

the income tax will work itself out if you are cumulative (or if you move to a cumulative tax code within the year) / will be reclaimable at the end of the tax year if you stay on w1 ... the NI is gone regardless.
