Following on from the Brightwells auction thread, SWVA's auction catalogue has just come out, for those who are interested:
http://www.swva.co.uk/classic-car-auction/classic-...
I liked:
Lot 17 Merc 500SEL, low miles, history, estimate is 2-3k
Lot 61 924 Turbo estimate is 8.5-9.5k
Lot 64 LHD Jaguar XC120 DH, fitted with XK150 engine. Needs a bit doing and UK registering but estimate/reserve are (unrealistically?) low at 30-35k.

Brightwells do set their estimates fairly low in general, so we are probably looking at the top end of estimates for final results, on the flip side their buyer commission rates are lowish at 8%+VAT on top.

Look how low the estimate is though, and it comes with the original wheels....

it was an interesting auction with few unsold lots and many cars exceeding the estimate by a considerable amount. Notable for me:

Austin 7 Wydor - made £8,600 with estimate of £4500 to £5200. Nice little car
Vanden Plas Princess - made £7000 and sold, looked good
Jaguar MkX - seemed quite rough to me with an estimate of £7800 to £8600. Made £10,200.
Citroen DS5. Nice car with estimate of £8000 to £9000. Made £14,500!!
Rover P5 coupe. Fairly rough, estimate £5300 to £6150, made £10,500
Wolseley Hornet. Fresh restoration, looked lovely, estimate of £4000 to £5000. Made £7800
MGC GT. Fresh restoration, not perfect, estimate of £10,000 to £12000 made £13,050
Morris 8. Lovely, estimate of £6500 to £7500, made £8,900
Jaguar Mk IX. Looked great. Shame it wouldn't fit my garage - estimate of £24,000 to £25,000 only reached £16,250
Daimler 4.2 sovereign (1968). Looked good, not completely perfect. Reasonable estimate of £9500 to £10500 made £12,500
Jaguar Mk2 3.8. Lots of paint problems, high estimate of £30,000 to £35,000 unsold at £21,500.
Austin 8. Beautiful, older restoration with loads of character. Estimate of £3900 to £4500 made £5,800

And then I went home. i was interested in a 3.8 S-type that came later, but it wasn't very good in the flesh and certainly wasn't worth the estimate in my opinion. Traffic out of Poole was bloody terrible too....

P.S the white Bentley made £4250...

The E-Type looked beautiful, and seemed pretty good value at £33,500.
