I am really torn here. The 991R was my dream car - the best "new age" 911 in my view (I'm a big fan of the 7.2 GT3/RSs). Then Porsche messed it up when my OPC's management "allocated" the cars directly to customers depsite me having been the first who got an option on the car.

Reading glowing reviews of the R just increases my frustration. What's the point of demonstrating what could be possible if Porsche does not want customers to actually buy the car. I am seriously P***ed off with Porsche. Not sure I want to buy another one
Basically how i feel. Porsche don't "deserve" my money any more.

If the 7.2 GT3 is the closest thing to the 991R, buy one of those at £120k - and it has the mezger engine/narrow body + does not have the space age anonymous centre console.
I own a 7.2 GT3 and an RS already wink

By making the R difficult-to-get, you necessarily increase the interest, clamour, demand and therefore price and profit for your new "higher volume" product, namely the 2nd generation 991 GT3. This of course, has nothing to do with whether the 911R itself stacks up as a great driving proposition. Having said that, I will say that I'll reserve judgement on the R until I drive one but, having been deeply underwhelmed by the ridiculously hyped and lauded 991 RS (which admittedly was driven on the road) did absolutely NOTHING for me, I'm not expecting a miracle product.

Go back a few years and the 996 RS, a true uncompromising homologation special, was very difficult to sell.
Cue today and and 991 "RS" is selling at premiums.
Has everyone suddenly fallen in love with trackday specials? Ha! (or hardly!)
Or is the interest and love for the new RS more to do with exclusivity, premiums and having the latest and greatest?

I don't know the answer and I'm not here to offend 991 RS owners but IMO these car itself (beyond irrelevant road-going grip and performance) is simply not involving enough IMO to be a) a future classic, b) fun on the road, c) comparable to previous Porsche offerings as my choice to buy, or drive on a Sunday morning. The whole 'door pulls underneath electric window switches' is so disingenuous, it makes me laugh. And I don't care what EVO etc say. EVO need to be nice to Porsche to test the next model first and they, as semi-professional drivers driving around the south of France in the sun, "test" - We sadly, have to, LOI, queue, pony up and own, drive in the rain in the home counties, and then sell.

Getting back to the R, congratulations PistolP on your allocation and thanks for recording your driving impressions. I hope the car signals that Porsche will make some products for those who are really enjoy driving VS poseurs and premiums type cars VS cynical marketing exercise.
That said everyone, how much is a LHD 993 RS Comfort? Makes you think no?

Some good points raised. Take away the premium potential, and demand would moderate hugely.

Me three. Was seriously tempted to go to my local OPC this weekend and ask about the manual 991.2 GT3 but the thought of kissing arse to get on the list disgusts me.

Then I had a drive of my 6 GT3 in the setting sun yesterday on relatively empty roads. Flip me. A sensory overload to drive, an all time great. I just can't see how a tintop driving experience can get any better. Sod the 991. Bah humbug.

Bitter and Twisted of Surrey.

You know mine will get used , eventually , I fear I'll hear about the car from you first . Don't really have forum time anymore let alone driving time , I'm still stuck out here in the desert frown

You take care though , I'm genuinely thrilled for you . It was a travesty you not getting one so I'm glad that now sorted

That is the obvious candidate, and I do hope they make 6000 or so worldwide so pretty much all who really want them will secure one. With the higher volume with the GT4/991RS, hopefully the speculative demand will have moderated.

chances are Porsche will do exactly what they have done so far. Initially pretend it's very highly limited but gradually feed in supply, effectively building almost as many as there is demand for. Look at how many 991 gt3s, gt4s and even 991RS were/are being built. The R is a bit of a different case as it's a numbered run but no reason to think the gen2 gt3 will not follow the gen1 in production numbers.

Does anyone know the actual (not speculated) number of uk registered 991GT3RS's so far - must nearly all be here by now smile

At the end of q1 2016, slightly over 200 acording to the dvla. There must have been a fair number of lhd cars in that number though but quite a few UK cars were delivered q2 at least from what I could see at Reading OPC.

Truth is Rich that no-one knows, but let's face it - what does it matter - as you well know, these cars just need driving. Had mine just over a week and been to the Ring already smile

Hi Terry - that's an epic shot - tell me how do you think it compares to the 3 - I thought very similar , just "more" in every way . Yep not obsessing over numbers by any means , just interested as production must nearly be done by now .

Enjoy the purple peril smile
