Just wondering where people have had success selling their bikes? Had mine on eBay for 10 days, had 2 phonecalls, bike is mint and priced about right with decent pics, is Biketrader or MCN worth it?

What value is the bike?

Lower end of the market, try gumtree; free to advertise but be prepared to put up with aholes offering you 50% of your asking price.
Higher value, ebay is generally best.

I've sold two this year. Both were advertised through eBay, auto trader, here on piston heads and then a couple of Facebook groups
Both sold via auto trader
Very different bikes too. One was a triumph tiger, the other an 899 Panigale

It's a 2009 R6 around the 5500 mark, think i better put it on autotrader!

I took my XJ6 to a bike shop. I got fed up with time wasters, you do get less money, but I went on the Friday, agreed on a price, popped back on Saturday at 0900 and had the money in my account by 0910.

Mine was an old VFR and I put on ebay as an auction. Always over share information - loads of pics and service history. Set your st line (lowest price you'll accept) and then everything else is gravy. I've sold my last two cars and last three bikes in the same way. Easy and relatively painless (idiots are everywhere after all). Higher value stuff maybe not but for sub-£4k I think that works well enough.

I've only had a couple of bikes over the past 5 years, & have PX'ed at dealer. Least hassle etc.
However, I think I may sell my current bike privately soon. was thinking Autotrader Bikes. What is the etiquette/protocol for potential punters? How does one stop a test ride becoming a robbery? Proof of insurance etc?

You get him to turn up with ID, and with a car or bike and a V5 in his name. Then you swap keys and if he doesn't come back you have his bike/car and know where to send the police. Or you sit on the pillion.
