Wow! I got a go on one of these on Saturday, finally crossing it off my bike bucket list .

A 1989 FZR400 Genesis - I remember being 19 or 20 sat in the works canteen pooring [sic] over pics of these (and the then Honda RCs) in Performance Bikes magazines and dreaming of owning one.

This one was practically mint - with an alleged 12K miles on the clock and closer inspection suggested that to be true.

Allegedly a barn find by the owner, the only bit of age I spotted was flaking paint on the top of the radiator. There wasn't a hint of corrosion anywhere else on it. (He even has the original end can).

What a joy to ride, such flat torque for a 400, and at every corner it was just telling me faster faster, lean further, get your knee down if you want to - did you just run out of gears? Knock it down hehe

Compared to what I remember of that era, the GPz500s I owned at the time was a fantastic all rounder, toured festivals with it, and gave some of the lads on 750s something to think about over the Cat and Fiddle road.

I'm an old man now, but riding this was like one of those dreams you have where you can fly around completely unaware why you are flying.

How much should I offer him for it?

£1500 is about top dollar that I would pay for one, even with only 12k on it, but I'm cheap although they seem to be unloved and not considered a'classic' it looks tidy, and would probably appreciate if that mattered.

Good fun little bikes smile

That's very much my mistake - I was thinking it was a classic.

That's what I told him, DO NOT CRASH OR DROP IT.

Yeah, I'd like to have it, maybe in another 10/20 years it could really be worth something - just so much fun to ride.

Buy it love it and enjoy it , if you paid £2000 it would still be less than the 1st year depreciation of a new mid range bike !!
