Hoping the forum can help me out with a bit of a first world problem re my 997 GTS. The 'S' of the 'Carrera GTS' badge on the rear of the car has been snapped off by some overzealous car valet folk.

I just spoke to my OPC who want to charge £60-odd +VAT for a new badge plus £160-odd +VAT for the labour.

Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative (I am based near Guildford, Surrey) to get this done or am I better off just stumping up for Porsche to do it properly?

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer.

The same happened to me a couple of years back. Bob at RGA sorted it for me. Too long ago to remember how much I'm afraid, but know it was miles less than what you've been quoted.

Most indies should be able to sort you out.

BTW I used the opportunity to declutter my rear as it were, and went for just GTS after I saw Spaceparts' car. Looks much better in my opinion.

Annoyingly I didn't notice till I got home - they of course denied all knowledge despite the length of the badge being full of cloth threads!

I do like the idea of decluttering the rear - will have a look at some options and get onto a local indy.

Thanks both

I don't like the paragraph of script on the latest Porsche's. I bought a '911' badge off ebay and did it myself. Some strong thread(nylon fishing line would work), wife's hairdryer and gently heat the badge and slide the thread under the badge. Remove any glue with clay-bar, detailer and some polish. Apply new badge. All done for under a few tenners.

I did exactly the same on mine a couple of years ago, easily done when you catch a cloth under it.

Dental floss is good for getting under badges.

Buy the badge from the OPC and stick it on yourself. It takes 5 mins to remove the old adhensive with a hair dryer. You just peel the back off the new one and stick it on. Did it myself - that labour quote is a joke.

Don't complain, the valeter has just turned your car from a Carrera GTS to a Carrera GT. There's about £600k price difference between the two.

Thanks for all the responses, really helpful. I have now debadged and will likely replace with just 'GTS'.
