If you have a hex editor, yes... it's pretty straight forward: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22663809/excel...

Never used this or even heard of it, is it simple for someone to use who is not particularly pc savvy?

Open as read only, or open full stop?

Easy answer to that is no, unfortunately.

I did this on an earlier version of Excel, a few years back by using Linux.

Damned if I can remember now and appreciate you aren't particularly tech savvy but that might be a way round it.

/sorry appreciate that advice is probably next to useless

Try saving as an 97-2003 file version then restart excel, the file should now be unlocked when you open it. This has worked in the past for me when dealing with formulas that were password protected.

don't think that will work if the file is password protected.

I have the same issue with a ZIP file.

Can anyone here help?

Or when can I find a 'consultant' or 'freelancer' that can help. I hear a lot about the dark web, how to I access this?

I've unlocked a few in the past; try this below. Pretty clear walkthrough.

That'll remove protection/read only controls, but if it's a password required to open, it won't work.

OP, which is the issue you have?
