997.2 GT3 RS.....sensible buy at the moment?
Discussion
I think the standard 997 1 and 2 GT3's are better value for money. They represent probably over 95% of the driving experience of the RS's for a lot less money. Very little difference in driving dynamic. I think that the best values are still the 996's. Ultimately they are all very good cars. Interesting point made about the comparison between a 991RS and a 997 Gen 2 RS. In terms of potential outright pace, there is a lot less in it than you would would first think. The main factor being that the 991 gives up its performance much more easily. Forgetting the motorsport heritage issue, for me that makes the 997 a more multi dimensional, challenging and therefore more rewarding. Which is why I can see them holing strong values.

I think quite a few 997.2rs belong to people that don't really need to free up cash. Being a toy.
I am likely to pull mine off sale since for me, it ultimately will be worth more in time even if the market crashes. It's hard to find a pristine low owners car as time passes and the car truly represents the end of an era. The newer cars are faster but something has been lost. You gain some and you lose some.
Besides, how many of the newer rs cars are being made for a wider audience? Near 6k?
Quite surprised yours never sold tbh - looks fab in the flesh (saw one at Leicester in that combo). I do wonder if the price has risen too fast on some of these cars that people are now having a reality check. Not long ago they appeared to be selling but that has definitely changed in the last 3-6 months. I'm not sure we can blame Brexit either - I just simply think a lot of cars have peaked too high and are now looking expensive. As good as the RS's are.. we are now inviting people to pay double than what they were 3yrs ago as used cars, and nearly double than they were brand new. My head struggles to compute with that and sure I'm not alone.I am likely to pull mine off sale since for me, it ultimately will be worth more in time even if the market crashes. Agree, the easy money has already been made in the last 3 years. And the return on £175k will be far more modest, if at all taking all costs into account. Smart investors do not compare with 0.25% bank interest.
You'd have to be nuts to pay £175k for one when there seem to be cheaper ones out there and plenty of cars not movingPhooey said:

Good chap.
Unfortnately the days of seeing lots of 996/7 Gt3's and RS's at track days are pretty much over. There are sometimes a few - more often than not 997.1 GT3's - pounding around but these days it's the GT4 that tend to be in the majority - along with a few 991 GT3's and RS's. Although that is nice to see, it's a shame to think of cars built for track work being polished in heated garages by owners paranoid about putting 'track miles' on them. It's kind of missing the point.
If ever there were cars built specifically for track work it was these cars. Being driven badly on the road will do them more damage

Fully agree with you on this and went through similar dilemma before deciding on 997.2 GT3, just couldn't justify the significant premium for RS as prices kept going north rapidly. Never actually drove an RS but based on my recent experience I think I'd struggle to extract any significant pace, feel, enjoyment over my car. Having said that it's still on the long time wish list anyway. Fingers crossed for all the 'end of an era' crystal ball gazing as well...Fl0pp3r said:
looks overwhelmingly likely they will offer the next GT3 (and RS) with a stick, but as ever it will be interesting to see how many buyers actually spec it over PDK! 80/20? 70/30? what do we reckon?
If rumours of new 'R' model premium/overs are true with limited numbers and manual maybe more than you think. Mine would be manual but 80/20 might not be far off. All recent GT models are getting more viable/refined/useable for regular even daily use and as such PDK might win for many.RSVP911 said:
Are we thinking 991.2 GT3 may be PDK only after all ?
Taking into account that the R box, is in the PDK casing, not unreasonable to expect a manual box on future product at some point. Think zero chance it will end up in an RS though...IMVHO
