We've done Cornwall once, and South Devon, leaving from South Wales. But it's occurred to me we tend to keep our trips to Pembs/Gower and North Devon with tows rarely exceeding 2 hours.

What's your usual trip profile (or don't you care), and have you ever taken really long runs, for example up to Scotland, or France? I'm not thinking motorhomes here as I think tours are more suited to their use, I'd say caravans are more suited to a holiday in one place or maybe two.

Newport to the Nurburgring in one go. Done overnight set off at Midday in the UK and arrived at 7am. 6 Hours at Dover didn't help! 700 miles all in all with diversions. Kids in the back asleep does help.

Currently tend to keep trips to a couple of hundred miles. Further than that with 2 young kids by the time you have factored in traffic and a couple of stops (lunching seemingly never requiring less than an hour!) just seems like too much like hard work at this point in time. May venture further when the kids are a little older!

It's usually around 90 minutes each way for most weekends (we can easily get to the Dorset jurassic coast or the new forest in that time from Wiltshire ) and in a couple of weeks we're off to the Cornish coast, so far that'll be our longest trip.

To be honest our XC60 makes light work of towing (it's the only thing it excels at....) so it's not too much of a chore.

Never towed a caravan, but wifey won't let us go much over 100 miles from home (Isle of Wight) in our 1981 camper. She says it is potentially unreliable yet in 4 years it has never let us down.

When we lived in Leeds, I did Leeds to Geneva in one go (break for getting across the channel!) Left Leeds at about 5PM arrived in La Clusaz at about 06:30AM from memory. (We were camping but did it in a mk1 MR2!!)... I was knackered!

Will normally keep within 2 hours for weekends - usually see's us to the East Coast around Filey (the only non-down market resort within that time constraint).

We are just back from Dorset, which should be 4,5 hours - took us 7 today!

I also tow to Le Mans and back - about 13 hours each way.

Once I'm on the motorway it makes not much difference to me. The daughter is a dream in the car. The wife not so much...

Furthest from home has been Antalya, Turkey. Longest days towing about 350 miles. Just returned from 9 weeks in Europe, mainly Italy, as far south as Taranto. Brilliant trip! Compass Rallye 460/2 behind Golf tdi. Easy Peary!

Drove from Aalborg in Denmark to Calais a couple of years ago, pretty much in one go, with just an hours power nap in Germany, 800 miles, then off the ferry & 120 miles home. Did Horsens in Denmark to home via Euro tunnel a couple of weeks ago 830 miles, then last week Peterborough to Arbroath 425 miles, these are working trips though, when towing for recreational purposes I tend to keep to below 400 miles a day.

Furthest I have towed is Kent to Cornwall. Took us 7 hours. I was dreading it, but it was;t that bad. It took us about an hour or so longer than usual with the van on the back. It was also the first time I had to fill up with the caravan on the back. Worked out that I have to chose the stations carefully so that I can get around/reverse out from from the pumps with the smaller stations.

Did Cambridgeshire to St. Tropez twice towing my folding camper, just two overnight stops.
