Interesting comments, I have had my 996.2 GT3 advertised for approx 6 months and have had little interest. I have made the decision to keep the car as I genuinely think they will go up in value again, or at worst will be worth not much less than current values.
When you see cars such as 964RS 's at £150k plus, I think the GT3 is a bargain and a better drive. I appreciate the whole 'air cooled' thing but really??!!
I bought a BMW E92 M3 M Performance Edition to replace the GT3. It is a fabulous all rounder, but I am looking forward to picking up my car from Parr again. I know once I drop into those nomex seats and turn the key I will be wondering why I wanted to sell in the first place!!!

Spot on! I sold my (997) GT3 and wish I'd kept it. If you can hold on to it ...do just that...I doubt it'll ever go down and will most likely go up in value.

Great cars aren't they biggrin

To answer the original question...GT3 without a doubt. An event every time you drive it. One of the best cars ever made....without question.

I'd decided I wanted a 996 Turbo so as to accommodate 2 children in the back. Wife fell pregnant with child number 3...sorted, bought the 996 GT3 I always wanted as I couldn't leave just 1 behind so had to leave them all. driving

If you aren't going to track it I would go with the turbo.

GT3 is compromised for the road...I had both and I'd rather be in the turbo for a spin than the GT3. If there is a track session at the end of the spin then it would be a GT3.

there was an 03 GT3 that looked tidy in the bonhams auction at the weekend that sold for £57k incl premium.

makes one or two cars on the market look expensive.

At face value yes. It almost seems a "too good to be true" price.

Someone might be along to identify the catch perhaps?

bonhams are one of the 'good guys' in my experience. i had a good poke around it and it looked very tidy indeed.I just think that's where the market is for these cars at present. They seemed in vogue this time last year with prices rocketing but have definitely pegged back since then. 996GT2's are in a similar state with cars seemingly jumping from C£65k to £125k plus in a matter of months. There are still a fair few advertised still.

It sold for a fair market price. Most remain unsold in the PH (and other) classifieds hoping someone will bite.

I was being a bit cautious (possibly negative) wondering if the car has a 'past', but on the other hand, it looks very nice and if ti's straight, represents a really good buy at that price.

I really want a GT3 (996), after missing a few cars and speaking to the owners (these are private sales) I think most on the market are a little over priced. And private seller are taking BIG hits to move the vehicles on.

Yes the old saying goes "talk them down when looking to buy and up when selling" but they are not selling. I am looking to sell my Cayman R when I find the right GT3 and I can not understand how the Cayman R's are still £43-48k (for a good spec and low miles), but that's the market a good one goes up for sale and its sold in days. Some of these GT3's have been for sale for 9-10 months and still not sold.

£50-52k for a nice GT3 (private sale) and I am your man... Red or yellow would be nice -

The 996GT3 MK2 is still THE performance bargin in my opinion, followed by the 997.1 GT3, but the 996 is the better buy at the moment. The market still see's the MK2 as the misfit in the range, prefering the RS or the MK1. In truith it represents the pinacle of analogue car design and is only a few percentiles behind the 996RS which are over twice the money.

If I could find a good one in the 50's, id buy one but i suspect it would be a forced sale because the chaps who own them know exactly what they've got and how much it would cost to replace with anything comperable.

100% agree. There's all sorts of ludicrously priced ordinary stuff on the market these days whilst the 6.2 has remained steady. That's almost proof enough to me that all this tulip nonsense is being fuelled by fools, speculators, and market manipulators, not enthusiasts.

I imagine in 20 years the 6.2 will be revered as one of the all-time greats.

Prey tell, what would that be?

Firstly, I must declare an interest...

I keep looking at the 996 Cup literature that I have amassed in my garage library. Then I look across at my 996.1 CS K400 and cannot help but notice how close the race car is to the road car. I don't think this will ever be repeated. The 996.2 is just the same. From then on, things diverge. May not matter to some, but to me it makes a huge difference. I do like the fact that I own a car, which was built with MOTORSPORT in mind first and foremost, and profit then. Sort of Porsche's BMW E30 M3...

Also, the 996 was the platform which finally brought success to Porsche in the 24h of Nurburgring. It carries an emotional charge for me - I still vividly remember the 996R charging hard down the hill towards Breidscheid, discs glowing, being chased a foot apart by the Zakspeed Viper. In my mind this will stay forever. I don't remember a Cayman ever achieving this. Even the GT3 engined Alzen one...

The only car, which could be a worthy replacement for a .1 or .2 996 GT3 is a CSL. Having spend a lot of time in one I doubt many GT3 owners would opt for it.

I agree..

just finding one at early fifties is my problem.

Spoke to a chap who has his up for sale for 9 months 25,000 miles, 2 owner car and ended up taking £53k for it, and another chap who had his up for sale over a year and took £51k to get rid of it. (this was a 35,000 miles car)

I might end up keeping the Cayman R if I can't find one....

Think the Jap Import Yellow car is around that price but cant remember where i last saw it for sale (cba to look either tbh)

For me to get out of mine, id be looking to get the latest gen viper, either TA (closer in swapping price point) or ACR, maybe the last Gen ACR or a 997 GT2. All more expensive.

Going the other way, id probably do something stupid like a scooby engine in an old baja beetle/Sandrail or a track focussed S2000.

But im tight so will probably just hang onto it encase prices to go silly

I like this one but in reality I would never track it and my dull commute and pot holed lanes would be a waste of a great car.
Saw this car on Auto Trader’s Android App. Thought you might be interested. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
