I like this one but in reality I would never track it and my dull commute and pot holed lanes would be a waste of a great car.
Saw this car on Auto Trader’s Android App. Thought you might be interested. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
This picture from the advert was quite apt given the thread.Saw this car on Auto Trader’s Android App. Thought you might be interested. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
996 GT3 looks wider than the 996 turbo, a trick of the camera angle!
Both cracking cars. Depends on how they're going to be used. Turbo is the obvious choice for a daily but the GT3 is so much more special for a weekend toy. In terms of investment potential, it's a no brainier. In this digital age of PDK gearboxes and electric power steering, not to mention the much lamented Mezger, I'm quite sure the analogue purity of the 6.2 GT3 will become very sought after.
Where are all the decent 996 GT3 mk1 at fair prices and nice colours they are all silver and very highly priced and they are not selling either at such high prices think some are being optimistic.
Even the mk2 are nearly all silver I prefer the model in brighter colours no disrespect to silver owners just my personal preference.
Even though epic cars they don't look like much of a bargain anymore as they are in the price league of other desirable models.

the 996 gt3 in my opinion will never reach the lofty heights of 964 RS prices...
The market is driven by other factors than how good a car is to drive. 996 just isnt that desirable of a design, and a air cooled experience is more unique if you ask me. yes Ive owned a 996 gt3, and im back into classics ( 930 , 3.2 etc...)

Here is my update to the post or should I say here is my new manual midnight Blue 966 Turbo. I collected it from Porsche Glasgow yesterday. It's stunning condition. Porsche car preperation must be second to none. I decided to go for the turbo because I will get more use out of it than a GT3 and I own a manual DB9 for dry days.
I did sit in a gt3 but didn't drive one. I have no doubt the GT3 is an awesome drive but the DB9 is surprising good to drive and I feel a million bucks driving it. The GT3 have too many limitations for my usage. Once I new the Turbo was for sale I knew it was the car for me and I think they are just cooler.
Congratulations on buying a great car, looks like a very good choice for you. 996 Turbos are brilliant cars, and still underrated, it was an important car for Porsche and really upped the performance stakes to keep it abreast of it's supercar competitors. Here's a nice old Porsche promo video for it: https://youtu.be/2-pYen94aPc
Firstly I love the Turbo. I took it for a long drive in the Cairngorms yesterday and I had all sorts of weather. I am no doubt I picked the correct car for me. First impressions are fast, tones of grip and confidence inspiring.
A comparison to the Aston DB9 which I Also love...
You don't get as much attention in the Porsche.
The Aston Sounds better but I went to an Airshow a couple months back and it sounded better than most of the Aircraft. However the Turbo does sound better than I expected. It does have an expensive, mechanical, Motorsport, forget valves in exhaust sound when giving it the beans. I did feel like Alan McNeish in Le Man at times .
In the Aston you feel like your sitting over the back wheels. In the Porsche I feel I am sitting further forward. There is more adjustment in the Aston seating position. The Aston has a more supple ride. At one point I couldn't get the CD in the slot in the player and thought if a GT3 is harder I couldn't live with that on the roads.
The Turbo Has the optional sport shift and it's great. Both gearchanges are excellent and mechanical. the Turbo clutch is lighter and easier to get off the line.
The Turbo has more grip. Period.
The Aston has lighter steering and the Porsche is heavier but I have not work out yet which has a faster rack. That might be a surprise because when I first drove the Aston the sterling caught me out a few times because it was so quick and I have owned an NSX and Elise for comparison. In the turbo you turn the steering and the front grips and doesn't let go until I'm out of breath. A few times I said to myself and the sheep that the Porsche engineers know what they are doing.
I will try and answer any questions about the two cars???
Two great manual GT cars. The Aston is one of the most beautiful cars and interiors ever made. One of the best sounding cars ever made and feels like sports car with comfortable suspension. Perfect!
The Turbo commands respect. I love the 996 looks and the headlights haven't bothered me once. I prefer it's "rounder" styling and wheels compared to a 997. When I drive the Turbo the heritage oozes out to me. The steering wheel and dials remind me of a Carrera GT and the engine feels and sounds every BHP of Motorsport. The engine feels like it has more power to give. The turbo feels mechanical and bomb proof. The steering feels heavy because it has so much grip. It might feel heavy because the car has more grip than my hands and arms have strength. Awesome!
