If you wanted a painting of your animal where would you look for an artist?

There are people on facebook who do this - some are very good, some not so much...

I found someone online who does pet portraits in pastels. She was excellent. Am I allowed to post her name here?

Genuinely don't know if this is allowed (if not, very sorry) - but I'm an artist and often do commissions for people of their dogs and other pets.

Some examples:

I do lots of other work too, but requests for 'petraits' are becoming quite frequent which I love!

Please feel free to contact me privately to discuss, if this is of interest smile

i had an "alternative" portrait of one of our dogs done by a guy called Dominic Murphy.

he isnt for everyone as his stuff is pretty dark but he was well priced and a good guy to deal with. our piece is 24" x 12" and done in watercolor. i sent him a load of pictures of the dog in a variety of poses and just let him do whatever he wanted to do. he sent a proof image over and that was it (we were happy).

took him about 3 weeks - just shy of £200.
he keeps the image rights so he can make prints later on. we didnt have an issu with that at all but i think he is open to negotiation over this.

i'll put a pic up later on.

I recommend Val Barr. She works in pencils mainly and her work is stunning. She has a website under her name, she is based in Perth, Scotland, but can work from photos. She specialises in animal drawings, including horses, dogs and game.

Lorraine did an excellent portrait of my cat. Loved it. She has many examples of her work on her website.

Seems a bit of a bargain assuming the amount of time it must take.

I don't know what her prices are like now. My cat portrait was done 10 years ago (actually can't believe it was that long!) for £150ish. She had a bit of a waiting list back then. Must check to see if my picture is still on her website :-)

That looks like the artist can't do feet/paws...or suggests the feet are deformed so need to be covered.

Or th picture they used the dog was standing in a puddle and the owner wanted that to show the dogs personality. Judging by how good the rest of it is I'm sure they can do a dogs paw.

Love that pidsy

It's a nice bit of fun!

We've got about 25 of his prints on varying subjects - just waiting for Duncan to get a bit bigger and he'll be getting his own portrait.
