Hi all

Have searched for this problem but can't find much info.

My wife's 2007 A3 2.0 TDI with the S-Tronic box seems to have an issue with the PARK gear. On a fairly shallow incline if the handbrake is not on, it will just roll unrestricted - as though it's in neutral. I don't know if this is a DSG/S-Tronic thing, but every other auto I have driven rolls 3-6 inches with park engaged and then stops. We always use the handbrake, so it is hard to say how long it has been like this because it doesn't normally have a chance to roll.

Is this a known fault? Can it be repaired, or is this a new gearbox job? Does it imply a further breakdown of the box is likely? (It drives fine at the moment.)

For info, the box has always been serviced in accordance with the service schedule.

Many thanks in advance. smile

Are your brake lights working ? Heard about a bad batch of brake light switches that cause very odd problems ??

Sounds like the parking pawl is damaged.

Possibly been put in park before fully coming to a stop.

Cant imagine brake light switch has any effect when switched off?

As for whether it should, my A3 DSG locks the wheels when in park so definitely a fault.

Took it to the local independent Audi specialist who plugged in a computer - no faults showing. It's going in on Friday for a more thorough diagnosis. The service chap suspects and I hope, that it's just the one of the switches within the gear lever itself. Fingers crossed. Will report back.

All this new gearbox technology seems to hassle than it's worth. Hope you get it sorted mate

The garage says that the problem is definitely internal to the gearbox, having looked at all other options. Apparently they can send it away to a gearbox specialist for repair. The total cost for the job is between £1000 and £1500.

It's all a bit of a pain in the arse tbh. The car is only worth about £4000 on a private sale if everything was in good order.

Bought it 6 years ago, 3 years old and it's been by a long way the least reliable car we've owned, including two full on, not going anywhere breakdowns. Time to call time?
