As I have succumbed and added Connect Plus to my 718 order I thought I would start a thread dedicated to collating anything we find out that may help those who have specced it to get the most out of it. To start it off I found this PDF which gives a nice overview of the technology and, although it is produced by Porsche Cars NA, it will undoubtedly have some commonality with the UK market.

I succumbed too. When I went through the spec with the salesman I asked him "if it were your car is there anything else you'd add" and he said Connect+ because features will keep being added.

I'm very easily sold to!

Looks like you get 24 months free Nav and Infotainment services when taking delivery from October 2016:

Seeing as my current M235i has everything that Connect Plus has, it would be a big step back to not spec it. So I will ... smile

Not having things like live traffic updates, auto-route-change suggestions/diversions, and ability to copy destinations/waypoints from phone to car would be a loss to me.

Does Connect and Connect+ allow you to link more than one iphone to it?

I have a personal and a work iphone so would rather rinse the data on my work phone for obvious reasons but like to keep my other phone connected for personal calls.

Anyone had any experience of this?

Probably not otherwise the Porsche website would explicitly state that this was possible and I cannot find any references supporting the dual phone functionality. This link may be of interest to you:

I wonder if it would be possible with Connect Plus to insert your work phone's SIM into the PCM slot for data use and connect your personal phone to the PCM via Bluetooth for your personal calls?

As always, if in doubt contact Porsche smile

...although it would appear that the SIM card slot also provides telephone functionality as well as data ( for Google Earth etc ) so I think the answer is no to dual-phone connectivity to the PCM. If you find out anything to the contrary then please post it here.

Thanks for the reply. Seems to be the case.

On the bluetooth systems on our previous cars it seems to default to whichever phone is higher on the "connected" list, so stands to reason this would probably be the case here too.

I'll double check with our dealer when I next see them, they're hopefully dropping off a demo with us to try for a day in the next few weeks.

If it is like Audi Connect then you can use the SIM for data only, and do the telephony from the iPhone. On the Audi system you can pair several iPhones. Being that the Macan is so heavily based on the Q5, I suspect it is the same service, and the 718 would use the same system.

^^^^Yes, SIM for data only is backed up by the document I linked to in the first post. The image on P39 shows a typical connection scenario I presume. If you don't want to use a dedicated SIM for data you can tether your phone and use its data plan as per the image on P41.

Best check you can tether an iPhone for data. Audi Connect won't, as the iPhone doesn't use a compatible Bluetooth data transfer protocol.

As per P41, tethering is via WIFI

This makes a good read, and confirms what you say about tethering:

Regarding the dual phone connectivity above, I found this video that discusses several aspects of the 718 Cayman. In particular, at 9:00, it is stated that 2 phones can be connected to the PCM:

So not all is lost for those who need it?

It doesn't allow more than 1 iPhone in a Seat Leon and the system in the Leon is VERY similar. You have to connect with the USB cable to use Carplay. If you don't use Carlpay then it might allow 2.

If you go to the Porsche Connect App Services web page you can find details of some of the access for PCM Connect. Not all of these may be entirely desirable

PCM Connect
Version 1.3-1606201354 can access:

• read calendar events plus confidential information
• add or modify calendar events and send emails to guests without owners' knowledge
• read your contacts approximate location (network-based)
• precise location (GPS and network-based)
• read phone status and identity
• read the contents of your USB storage
• modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
• view Wi-Fi connections
• read phone status and identity
• view network connections
• allow Wi-Fi Multicast reception
• full network access
• change your audio settings
• prevent device from sleeping

Not true. I have the latest PCM on my macan turbo you, with connect you can finally pair two phones and switch seamlessly between them

Bumping this...

I'm reading as much as I can about the pcm/connect plus vs connect options trying to decide what way I'd go.

I don't use nav that much in my current car, but I definitely want the option to if needed so it's one or the other. I'm used to the iDrive system with live traffic etc. Hence if I went pcm nav then I'd have to go for connect plus too.

I'm thinking that for the times I need it, apple maps would be sufficient. The concern about no offline maps is valid, but I can probably cope with that.

Any thought on if the pcm/plus option is worth the extra £1400 over connect/CarPlay?

I was in a similar position.

Don't really need Nav as my journey to work is the same every day, but handy to have on the rare occasions I may need it.

For this reason I chose only Connect. Apple Maps is handy if needed and has traffic updates and also changes your route if there is traffic further ahead. (I also listen to Spotify a lot which Apple Car Play supports)

It's certainly not financial suicide to not order PCM Nav, it's just one of the few options you'll probably get your money back on come resale time. If you are paying cash for your 718 it makes no difference (£1000 extra for PCM, £1000 better trade in value at resale). You could happily ignore your PCM knowing you'll get your money back at trade in. But if you are financing your Porsche it's a different case. Yes, you will still get £1000 more at trade in speccing PCM but your monthly payments will have increased £30-£40pm in the meantime (and paid interest on that extra £1000). Expensive for an option you may rarely use.
