I need to register a bike in England from Germany.

I have had it MOTd
I have registered it on the NOVA System
I can insure it when I am ready to send the forms off.

DVLA has sent me the V55/5 and I don't know what fields I actually have to fill out. Please can somebody help who has done this before as I have already got it wrong once! I will transfer a pint to somebody who helps me get this sorted as the bike has been sat in the garage for 2 months now.

If it makes any difference the bike is a 1998 R1

I did this last year, there are several sections that are not relevant. I called DVLA and they advised just to fill in what was relevant or known.

The only sections I filled in were;

2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 18, 19, 27, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 45 & 47

All this info came from either the original reg. document, or from simple observation (colour, number of seats etc.) for the Left or Right hand drive question I put RHD.

Other than that I insured it, on the frame number and got an MOT. Must have done it right because I got a V5 back within a week but I did send them the original Italian registration document for proof of age etc.

Thanks Catso - Did you get the original ?Italian reg document back? I saw in some guidance that they do not give anything back that you send them.

No, they don't give that back. I think you can get it done without but then you need to prove the age (or get a 'Q' plate) and it might get complex plus, I would imagine the fact that they can see it was previously registered (especially for other EU countries?) might help for various 'conformity' rules?

I was told you only need a specific vehicle approval form if less than 10 years old. Mine was 35yrs and they were never done.

Actually the whole procedure was very straightforward and the DVLA done good...

P.S. if it helps PM me an email address and I can send you a scan of what I sent.

I do have a Certificate of Conformity from Yamaha based on the frame number. Only problem is it had a restriction fitted from new which has been removed so I was reluctant to provide that - although having spoken to DVLA they have said if you attach a note they will put the full power figure on the V5.

Use the form that came with if for what you need to fill out, not the notes on the form (yes the are diffrent).
Do call the DVLA they are way way better than you would expect.
It may take a few goes for the DVLA to like what you put but stick with it and they do send info back on where your went wrong.

+1
I registered a JCB telehandler recently. I only filled in the boxes I was 100% sure about, called DVLA for reassurance/advice, & included an explanatory cover letter. Took around a week to receive the V5. Also, AFAIRC, I had to include a cheque for both the admin/registration fee & also the VED

Thanks all for help. Catso kindly e-mailed me a copy of his successful form and all information he submitted his with. This should help me get it out of the door today!

He also waived his pint in favour of a small donation to https://www.lhm.org.uk/ - so have done that now.

Thanks all!

Simple answer is - what would you expect to find on a V5C for a similar-age new-in-UK bike?

Make/Model
Body type
Tax class
Colour
Engine number
VIN
CC
First reg date

And that's about all you need.

I followed the advice from catso when registering a KTM from Switzerland this month and had my V5 issued in 9 days. They even let me off a £0.55 underpayment for the tax....
