Anyone going this weekend?

It's my first road race I'll have been to, so a couple questions...

Any good locations/straights/corners to watch the bikes?
Apparently I've got tickets with paddock access, does this mean I'll be able to freely roam the pits/where they're working on the bikes etc. or is it a bit more restricted than that?

I've never been but my mates go.

You get pit access with tickets bought early I believe. You can wander about at bsb so id imagine the same there.

Viewing others go or have been off here so will be better placed to answer, although I'm told it's a bloody big hill to walk up if you are on the unfit side of things.

Supposed to be a good weekends entertainment- enjoy

It's a small circuit and easy enough to move around to find different viewing points, so try a few. I don't know all the section names but have previously enjoyed watching at Jefferies Jumps (?) which is the series of steps in the circuit as it rises up through the trees along the bottom of the hill. Crashes there seem to see the machines slide off towards the farmers field, which is down a fairly steep slope!

Try some of the slower hairpin-type corners at top and bottom of the circuit too. In places you're only separated from the track by the width of a privet hedge.

I'll be there, heading over Saturday morning and back Sunday evening. You'll have the chance to sample the viewing points, with 2 days of practice/racing and a relatively small track, you'll go around it over the weekend.

I've only been once before but the hairpin after the start is good, and the chicane before the finish line too. Unfortunately I didn't really see much else last year as the racing was cancelled fairly early (bad oil spill) after a late start (rain).

Paddock access is good, you'll get really close to the teams, and some of them are very approachable. One of the teams was offering people to sit in the sidecar if they were taking an interest!

I am going this weekend as well.

You can certainly wander round the pits if you have paddock access, its the best bit in my opinion.

You can easily walk it all over the weekend I think the start straight is one of the best places to watch, can get a beer there as well !
Should be a great weekend

Places to watch? The jumps along the back straight, on the infield as the bikes go into monument, and for sideways action watch at mere (turn 1)

Gutted im not racing this weekend, however bike is for sale to enable more suitable bikes for a full roads year in 2017.

Get into The irish quarter saturday night, probably find yourself drinking with the riders!

Paddock access is great, good to have a nosy up close to the bikes and talk to the riders.

There's a map on their website but i've pinched it and added my preferred locations for you. It's a short circuit so you can easily see the races from all the different areas. My favourites are the first hairpin because it's so slow, and up quarry hill because the bikes sound absolutely amazing. It's all good though really, great day out.

Cheers guys

I think Scarborough tends to a bit quieter/more relaxed compared with the TT etc? (at least that's what I've heard) so easy to get a good spot to watch the bikes?

There's also this map as well which looks decent (if not to scale), think I'll print a couple up for myself and old man.

Bear in mind that the track between Mere and the Esses and Drury's and Mountside is very steep accessed
by a steep path or a series of large steps.
Depending on your old man's age and fitness he may struggle.
Don't wanna piss on your chips just making you aware.

Other than that it's a great event, hope you enjoy it

Pft we're both adults I'm happy to leave him somewhere while I go explore the track hehe

Are there a lot of unpaved paths? Might need to get the walking boots out smile

There are no paved paths, only the paddock area is tarmac.

From Mountside to farm bends is woodland, lots of exposed tree roots etc.
The start finish area is grass but quite steeply banked.

The "top" half of the circuit from the esses to drury's is flat and is used as football pitches
the rest of the year so easy walking.

Look on youtube, few videos on there which will give you an idea of the terrain

There for both days and had a great time.

The course is small enough and easy enough to move around that you can watch each race from a different corner/straight, working around the whole course in a day. Thought pah about the slope/steps stuff above, but to be fair it is pretty steep/slippy. Only thing that would have been better if the racing was closer, most of the races were won quite "comfortably" with the rest of field quite strung out.

Pictures below, thanks to Liam for the loan of his camera...

Fantastic weekend! Brilliant circuit, bit longer and more varied than I was expecting and riders weren't holding back despite the narrowness of it.

Walked around the entire circuit on both days, not easy given how steep it was (you weren't kidding scunnylad! Walking boots were definitely essential) but hats off for my old man for doing the same, not bad for a 60 year old fart biggrin

Berz - pretty much spot on with the best locations however I think the best was the mountainside hairpin, as that's where some of the riders were making their last moves, plus the noise as they accelerate away cloud9 bit quieter there too compared with the south side of the circuit. The bottom straight before jefferies jump is good too, bit watching the riders struggling to control their machines under full throttle.

Got a ton of photos, going to take a while to sort through them all.

Just wish it wasn't so far from Aberdeen!
