964RS which track tyres
Discussion
Hi Steve, knew I could depend on you for guidance
He only really uses the car at the NBR GP circuit, SPA and Hockenheim. I advised him to try CUP 2's and he really isn't happy with them compared to his previous R888's. What he basically told me is that it understeers. He is now away on holiday on Sylt so I cant get any further details just yet. All geo settings are identical to previous, just the CUP 2's don't inspire the confidence the previous tyres did.

I made the same change with my 964 Cup.
I expected great things of the Cup 2's. They are great straight out of the pit lane. They rapidly rise in pressure and require a lot of correction to get to the ideal setting. However when they go - they go dramatically - like falling off the proverbial cliff. The issue is not the pressure but the temperature. Admittedly it was after a good few laps at Spa Francorchamps. Checked the pressure and that was okay but the temperature was too high. Off course they then started to collect 'marbles' off the track and this exacerbates the problems.
The Toyo R888's are more progressive. They are still available through the distributor in the Netherlands. I bought some recently and they were reasonably priced.
I've tried Bridgestone SO2's previously and they were poor.
I've tried Goodyear Eagle F1's for reference. No use whatsoever.
Fuldas in the distant past - No use whatsoever.
He should go back to the R888's.

Generally I get tyres up to temperature in 3 or 4 laps rom cold. As just said, the Cup 2's keep creeping up and i'm still bleeding off after another few laps which is a pain. Reasonably quick for about 15 mins then they start to go off and you may as well come in. We had exactly the same characteristics with the 888 on the GT3.
They are not a bad tyre and when in the sweet spot a little quicker that the Cup 1 but ultimately nowhere near as consistant through wear and heat cycles.
