Buying a Subaru for my next car

Hi everyone...
Currently driving in a MX5 MK1 1.8 UK model which I've had for and year and 1/2 now... love it and have taken very good care of it over this time, sorting various issues etc, will be 22 next year and I am looking at getting a Subaru impreza wagon or saloon as I love the look of both , for my next car... Can anyone out there give me some tips/hints/advice on which model or age I should look into, or what your preferred ones are... it would need to be standard in the engine bay (for obvious reasons) and I don't intend on hooning it around ... I have a great deal of respect for them...., I'm looking for a nicely kept one with good service history. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated,

I can't help you with the choice of car, but you haven't said what your budget is. Also, have a look at insurance quotes,as you're quite young.

Budget needed! Had a 'bugeye' 2001 WRX wagon, loved it. Best seats of any car I've owned and there's something great about how they feel to drive. Insurance and running costs can be pricey though.

Ive had a good look into insurance and it will be around the 950-1250 mark depending on what age I end up getting. I have a budget of £5000

I had a 'blob eye' WRX on an 03 plate, best part of 10 years ago now.

Definitely my favourite car, totally reliable over the couple of years I had it, 0-60 in around 5.5 seconds, liked a drink though, which is why it had to go eventually.

£5,000 gets a tidy enough car though i often browse the ads for these and there's not a great selection out there nowadays.

Main thing I would be looking out for is the cambelt changes - every 50,000 miles or 5 years. If there's evidence of a reasonably recent one then that's a big bonus. If not, well I remember a cambelt change and service costing me about £900 when mine hit 50k miles. Maybe you can get it cheaper/do it yourself but it's one expense i always recall.

Ah that's great, sorry to hear yours had to go though! I have been looking mainly at the blob eyes a few bug eyes have sparked my interest too, it all comes down to budget at the end of the day. Thanks for the heads up

Agree with everything Andy has said!

Although for long term investment I'd be looking at picking up one of the classic Impreza's but running/refreshment/rust costs might all be higher.
