Nice car but won't the new GT3 if it comes with a manual box and 4.0 Engine in essence be a 911R with a wing and see through windows ?

Saw two on Saturday also @ Hatfield, ready for handover. One of them destined for a certain Mr Hamilton (senior) lovely looking cars..

Not really, because it won't have any of the following -
Standard PCCB
Carbon wings
Carbon bonnet
Magnesium roof
Polycarbonate side and rear windows
Will the next GT3 be 4 litres?
Rear diffuser
Special trim, clocks etc
Reduced sound insulation
Bespoke rear wheel steer programme
Titanium silencer

It's the details that make the R so special. It's a shame very few will sample what it can do and will say it's 'just a GT3 without a wing'

Rumours before the R was launched that it was a 3.8 with a seven speed manual and narrow tyres. So there's plenty of scope for Porsche to do something different to what we all expect.
Well, actually, that whole list is basically what you will find on a GT3 RS. The unique bits are the diffuser and interior; the former simply making up for no wing so not exactly a measure of 'specialness'.

So i am in the camp of wondering how a Gen 2 GT3 (manual) will be that different to a 911R. However, i fully appreciate that just knowning your (painted) carbon fibre and magnesium is there will mean the 911R will be the more 'special' car.

I'm prepared to laugh at the eulogy of the next GT3 as they tweak everything just enough to make it ever so slightly different to the last best-ever-911 from 6 months ago.

I saw a GT silver R with green stripes today in Cardiff OPC,looked absolutely stunning in a subtle way especially in comparison to Lava GT3RS also in the showroom.

Didn't one of them have a dodgy interior with beige dials and sport chrono?

There were two agate for sale, the one i looked at was £20k less than the other despite same age, both with glass roof but the cheaper had burmeinster but natural carrera red leather and the multi function no paddles wheel which was a dealbreaker for me.

If ever you see a car with the daft buttons on the wheel / multifunction, remember that for less than a grand, they'll swap it out for a new Sport Design wheel.

It does put a lot of people off, you're not alone.

The RS parts your won't find on any other 991 body without the side intakes, and there are also parts that are unique to the "R" (interior Sound deadening, front wings etc.). The way the car drives will also set it aside from any other 991 imho, even the new GT3/RS. Value wise it will take a hit no doubt but I don't care I'll be keeping mine.

Any excuse for a pic:

There is no doubt that the 991R will remain very special. If I had the option to buy one, I would have in a heartbeat. Alas.

However the 991.2 GT3 Touring Pack will come close to the R for people not fortunate to get one. I think that Porsche have dealt sensibly in this regard. The R retains enough unique features to keep it at a pinnacle, and yet Porsche is actually going some way to address a demand from enthusiasts that want a retro styled, manual, wingless 911 GT car. The GT3 Touring will not burn R owners that bought at RRP from their dealer and use their car. It will burn - or at least singe - car flippers that hope to trade the car significantly above RRP.

Is the mythical touring actually a thing yet ?
