Curious as just came back from Holiday, drove from Orkney to Dorset (ok ferry was involved briefly) in one day, left North of Scotland 8AM, got home 11:30PM. Its one of those once a year journeys that historically have been the ballpark of a Diesel (we stopped once for fuel, 3x for bladders and food)

I realise this is entirely doable in an EV or Hybrid (possible a few more stops even in a Tesla) but has anyone actually done such a trip?

Non-stop (other than fueling) and fully loaded to the roof with heavy sports kit and 3x Company director build blokes on board. I realise some people may have "toured" but has anyone burnt through 800miles of electrickery in a single journey?

In theory, a Tesla Model S would have made it with just the requisite bladder stops if you hooked up to a super charger or fast charger. And again, if you just jucied up enough to get to a food stop and then fully charge.

Can't say I've done it, but with adults only I'd give it a go... With kids, no way!

A guy last year drive from lands end to John o groats and back and has just been accepted in the Guinness book of records (some weird class such a least amount if stopped time as they won't encourage speed on public roads). Can't remember the exact time it took but was pretty quick considering.

I'm sure it could be done, but as part of the man maths process of ordering my Tesla I assumed that some of the fuel savings would go towards 7-10 days a year of renting a Range Rover. I probably won't need to but the maths still stacks up.

That would be insane- its bad enough with 3 tired adults!

(We went diving in Orkney, drove up Friday night after work, arrived in time for 6:30 ferry from Scrabter, drove back all day Saturday a week later)

Has anyone done a long high speed run in a ModelS at its Max weight allowance, I suspect the range is decreased noticeable when its dragging its arse up the motorway like a dog with a cling-on :-)

At well over 2 ton anyway extra weight will only know a few percent of range. Higher speed and roof boxes kill
range more. I've certainly had 4 adults and luggage and done a tour of Scotland easily.

I see at least one Norwegian Model S every time I go to Switzerland with work (once per month) that's some tour, sometimes Dutch and the occasion Belgian.

I can imagine myself with an EV in the future and would happily tow a trailer if I needed to take any kit with me (trailer would have to be manhandled at Superchargers)

A friend and I are organising and doing the Three Peaks Challenge in our Tesla's in a couple of weeks' time, which will test both arguments of range anxiety and charging time concerns of ICE vs. EV vehicles - will see if we can still complete the challenge in 24 hours!!
