Used Focus RS price madness!

Just had a quick browse of the approved used Ford site and looked up the Focus RS. I was totally blown away to see the pricing of them. This for example:

Depending on options, could be £9k over the original list price. Seems extremely steep. Is there a shortage of new ones? I just specced one up on the Ford site with a bunch of options for £34k. Madness.

But are they selling. There appears to be loads of them but I wouldn't want to buy a pre-registered one with a few hundred miles (no doubt hard miles) at a premium. I wouldn't give anyone the pleasure of making money out of me. They are all chancers and hope they get their fingers burnt. I think they are expecting them to hold their values like the earlier ones but there appears to be too many flooding the market in my opinion.
Mr Supply meet Mr Demand. They can't build them quick enough so people are willing to pay a premium to get into one now. That's hardly a new thing.
Interestingly this is not a limited edition so supply will catch up at some point and then they'll run into it being an old model in 2018. Ford must be creaming it at £31k for a Focus with no specifically expensive hardware.

Not sure why it is a surprise, a well reviewed car is in demand, even Golf R's which are all over the place and come off leases in droves are still quite pricey second hand, plus there is the RS factor, have you seen what people pay for the last one.
Money int he bank for those that have bought, ordered and received one, run it for a year and move it on, quite possibly a free years motoring.

But how long will you have to wait for delivery? That's the point.There was a very similar thing with the Impreza Turbo back in the late 90's. Long waiting list or paying over the odds for a pre-registered or 6 month old car if you wanted it immediately. I was patient.
I don't know what the waiting time is now, but Ford dealers were quoting 12-14 months until quite recently. People will pay to jump the queue.
Back in 1996, a work colleague had one of the very first Porsche Boxsters in the UK after getting an order in very early. He ran it for 6 months and sold it at a profit. It's nothing new.

The list price has also risen since the order book opened by £2250 and the cost to change to the black forged alloys has gone up circa £400.
I have been waiting since early October for one so got it at the original price and it will come with Sync 3 and the winter pack which early cars won't have. I don't have plans to sell it on quickly but to have the option is attractive and may be necessary depending on how practical it proves to be.

It's the same with the new UK spec Mustang GT. Loads in the classifieds for more than list price. I understand the wait for a new order is down from a year to around 8 months.
Base price when I got mine was £33k but since then Ford have put up the price 4 times so after 9 months of owning mine a new one is £2000 more.
Would love to know if all the overpriced ones are actually selling.
