golf GTI mk6 2010

I've had the engine management light pop on/off over the last few weeks and had the fault code read when in for a service (local specialist). turns out the manifold inlet valve is sticking and they have recommended replacing the manifold (as the valve cant be replaced on its own)@ a cost of £550.

now a quick google is showing some results saying VW have increased the warranty on this specific part to 120k miles or 10 years which ever comes first. I gave the main dealer (where its been serviced regularly) and they said they don't know anything about that and they'd need to get the vehicle in look at it, run diagnostics (charge £70) and then take it from there....

does anyone have any knowledge of this issue, is it cheaper for me to DIY it (brother is a mechanic, so could be a weekend project), or should I speak to the dealer again?

That sounds like a VW of America kind of warranty? We get stiffed with far shorter powertrain warranties in the UK.

If that is the case, fitting one yourself (from ebay perhaps) is quite an involved process because of the direct injection.

If you pull the manifold off and the injectors stay in the head, you're lucky. If not, you will need an injector seal kit for each one that pulls out of the head, and they need special tools to fit the Teflon seal.

Was that £550 price fitted?

yeah after re-reading some of the forum posts saying about extended warranty, looks like it's american/canadian forums!

not sure i'm too keen on the diy approach, it looks doable, but not as straight forward as i'd hoped. ref not a straight forward unbolt/bolt on job

yeah £550 was supply and fit by a indy specialist, they reckon parts + 4hrs labour

Ha, thought so! They get the royalty treatment over there, we get shafted. It's our fault though because we don't stick up for our consumer rights anywhere near as vehemently as they do, but anyway....

If you're not confident, I would bite the bullet and let them do it. 150 bar fuel pressure and all that!

Unfortunately when something goes wrong with the Inlet Manifold the fix is to replace the entire thing.

I got one cheap(er) here - it still is an expensive fix , and fitted by the Indie. No problems since
