if you feel that strongly about it there is nothing stopping you buying a new MG today...not many people do though, funny that.

There aren't now. There's bugger all left there. A few MG SAIC buildings, some car parks and a shopping centre. The rest is just flattened ground

ETA: Romantically, I want to believe that's still there. I just don't know howit can be. Why would it be? And if you go past the site, where would this be? You can see most of it from the road.

And why would it be so well preserved? If St Modwen or SAIC weren't interested in what's there, surely it would be sold or scrapped? If neither were possible, why maintain it by keeping the lights running?

Its a shame that Rover were not able to produce new cars rather than just keep warming up the old ones. Their demise was inevitable.

I actually thought those were current day pictures, didn't read the thread they were on tbf and just flicked through the images. Well that's ruined my day!

It is claimed to be now - I could be wrong in all honesty. I want it to be like it is in the photos. It would be really cool if so smile

Eh? Of course I'd have preferred people to keep their jobs, but the fact is they would have kept their jobs if enough people wanted to buy the product, which clearly they didn't.

I have driven an MG ZR, your point being?

I don't own an E90 Diesel, you're mistaken.

Don't VAG do the trickle A3/Golf first, then Seat, then Skoda?

Or are you saying the new A3 is the old Arosa?

Either way, Rovers are still st. Pity for the lads that made them, it wasn't their fault. Doesn't make rovers less st tho.

Everyone i went to college with in the early 2000's wanted a ZR/ZS and buy all accounts they sold pretty well with all the insurance deals offered.

Sales didnt kill MGR , Mismanagement did well that and the phoenix four, Would you say the same about saab? Another maker of decent cars shafted by ste management.

Im not even an MGR fanboy im into e38 and e39 Beemers more than anything. But ive had a ZR and while build wasnt great i still loved that car.

I just bemoan the fact that we've lost MG,saab etc. And maybe with a few more of these ''shoddy'' car firms car manufacture would be a bit of a richer tapestry than a bunch of white 2 litre turbo'ed german pcp chariots .

And your garage clearly states that you have a 330d brother

I think that has an awful lot to do with marketing and perceived quality tbf.

note ''perceived''.

I think it was mainly to do with the fact that the later Rovers (25, 45, etc) that were still on sale in the 00s still looked and felt like they were from the mid-90s, and this is because effectively, they were. They feel old and crap against pretty much all of their rivals. The A3 is a half-decent product to begin with.

Yes, marketing plays a big part but Audi has always been a premium brand, so the public need far less convincing (although I personally think Audis are *hugely* overrated products).

Ford didn't exactly have a stellar reputation in the 90s, but they turned themselves around by designing brilliant all-new products (Focus, Mondeo, Ka), rather than just trying to facelift old rubbish.
