I was reading about this last night, it looks pretty impressive.

I have no idea what I would do with it, I just know that I NEED one!

Anyone ordered one?

Out of interest, what do you use it for?

Couple of early demos:
Casey Neistat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPG1Xa5Uqwo

Casey also did a hands on with the GoPro Karma which is also worth looking at

I have a Phantom 3 Advanced which I use just for filming places I go.
Only have 3 videos at the moment though:

Grafham Water

RAF Alconbury (may not work on mobile devices due to music)

My first flight

I like the Mavic but I really want the Yuneec Typhoon H Advanced.

Wow @ RAF Alconbury footage:

You flew your drone up a few hundred feet at the very end of an active RAF runway and posted the footage to the Internet?

edit: ah it appears that RAF Alconbury is an active _station_ (used by the US AF) but not a flying site. Phew!

I should have mentioned that its not an active flying base anymore. A few years ago it would have been shot down but now its just covered in containers and new cars (which you can't see in due to the weather conditions).

The other option (and one I'm in the middle of chasing down) is that he may have a CAA Licence.

I've passed my BNUC-S ground school exam and have my flight exam in a month which will mean through work I have a Permission for Aerial Works and can work with places such as airfields to do RPAS work.

I too would consider the Yuneec H Pro with RealSense, or if the budget was flush, I'd push the boat out to the Yuneec H920-V18

Still tempted by this.

I've been browsing ebay to look for a Phantom 3 or 4 to see see if I get much use from it before commiting to a more expensive Mavic. They seem to hold money well though. A 3 is still going to be £600+ and a 4 nearer £1000. At that point I may as well go for the Mavic bundles.

I've been contemplating a DJI 3 for a few months...especially as they're down around the 400 quid mark...and then you posted this.

Hmmmmm.

Does anyone know how good they are flying at altitude? one of my main trips away each year is skiing and would be could to get some ariel footage.

If there is enough demand here maybe try see if we can get a group buy to try reduce the cost a little.

Yeah not so impressed by the US and UK RRP being $999/£999...

The GoPro Karma is a very good price at £720 especially as it comes with the hand held stabilised grip! Money will be spent in January, on which one I'm not sure confused

I'm not sure either!

I originally had my heart set on the Lilly Drone, and have been waiting for that to be released. I wasn't plucky enough to actually put a deposit down and with the launch of the Karma I am very glad as I can see Lilly disappearing quite quickly with the way the market is evolving.

So the Karma ticked the boxes.....
simple drone
front mounted camera
Top end Gimbel
Small and comes with a back pack to transport

Plus the added bonus of the karma grip which allows you to use the same camera stabiliser for hand held operation. Plus you can attach it to the ruck sack to use handsfree.

Then the mavic came along.

It is smaller and has the added bonus of being able to fly indoors (more importantly it doesn't just rely on GPS alone) It has the ability to avoid objects which the Karma doesn't. The battery life is better. You can buy a headset and go drone racing with it.

so the dilemma is which to buy? They both are excellent, but the combination of the two would be bloody fantastic.

For me...I do wonder how much it will be a gimmick in that I am crap at remembering to take photos of times I am out...and then when I do can I be arsed to sit and go through them again? So would it be the same with the drone? How many drones are sat in the box unloved and unused other than for novelty factor? My car comes with park it self option....it only gets used to show people it can!

At least with the go-pro I could use it on holiday to take pictures when I go out kayaking. Or if I am out walking etc, so the Karma grip comes into its own on that front.

So confused and sat here wondering where to waste my money! Failing that....I could just buy the 375 mountune upgrade for the Rs wink

It's this for me really. I'm terrible for impulse buys. At the time, I need it more than anything! But really it's just a toy. I'm not sure at all if I'd ever have the time to use it. Plus, the regulations on using drones seem to be wholly at best. I need to rear up on them more before I do anything f.

Don't forget that price does not include a camera - fine if you already have one but worth considering when comparing to the Mavic.

I bought my Phantom as a bit of an impulse buy aswell, but I love it. It is an effort to use it though, make sure it's all charged, good weather etc. I probably use it once a month.

I think for me it's Mavic over Karma, purely down to the intelligent flight modes.

I have ordered one as its a lot less intrusive than taking out the Phantom 4 when vlogging and will fit under the pram!

Fair point but you can also use the GoPro camera on it's own for things like mountain biking which I often film myself riding.

How often to you find yourself reviewing/rewatching the footage? Do you record it in case of a "What if"? that miraculous save or that amazing jump etc etc....and if so do you keep all the non eventful footage?

It isn't a pisstake question...I am trying to justify the cost to myself....and possibly the otherhalf when she quizzes(grills) me on the reason!
