Now that you've ruled out the 97k mile 996, and are comparing lower mileage Turbos against an Evora this would be an easy choice for me, 911 Turbo all day long, and all night too smile But that is a personal preference and I can see why some would want the Lotus instead but they are very different cars. I've driven a few old Lotuses and I just didn't rate them, so I don't now have much interest in the newer models because of this. The 996 Turbo is a very special car, a big leap forward over the 993 Turbo and surely will be appreciated as such in the future. As flagship 911s go, in it's time it was truly mighty! Good luck with your choice!

Well after my 997 C4S suffered from the dreaded bore scoring I was torn between a 996tt and a Evora S. After viewing a few 996tt I viewed a Evora S .Wow what a car looks so much better in my opinion than the 996. The handling and power is very good to.

The interior of the Evora is a lovely place to be...

Okay, so, despite being someone who's put their money where their (not inconsiderable) mouth is; in a 996 turbo, I have to say, in absolute honesty, what Lotus are producing right now is fantastic. Forget 'just' the Evora for a second - a great car in its own right - the whole range is absolutely fantastic.

The cars look good, the interiors are a very satisfying, combination of sport and pared-down luxury and the engines (especially the V6 motors) sound great. It is a very difficult choice to say whether an 'old' 911 turbo or a newer Lotus is the better bet and I can very, very easily see how and why people are opting, in increasing numbers, for the latter.

Those interiors look great to me!

Just spotted the OP says he will 2,000 miles a year. There is no way you should be considering a 996T or any modern day Porsche Turbo as a weekend car. They are great all rounders, but as a result the most boring weekend car you could buy - in my humble opinion.

Given your fair weather mileage expecatation i'm surprised it's not a debate of Elise vs Boxster instead.

I was told that 911s don't take well to long winter lay-ups. Not sure how true or not this is.

Possibly generically true, but it's not a long winter lay-up. If you are avoiding salt, it's 3-4 months. I don't think that makes any material difference.

Now on the 'Nonsense spouted on this forum' thread.

Although I'd agree a 911 is best driven all year round and the 996 turbo loves wetter weather!

Where are you upto with this Tuscanny, any potential purchase in the pipeline?
Sounding like the Lotus is your preference. Is a lovely place to sit.

I went for a Evora S in the end. I viewed a few 996tt but they just did not do it for me. With my limited miles the Evora will be more of a occasion on a run out.
