This could be controversial. But what would you go for a 996 turbo 97000 miles against a evora s 35000 miles.

Evora is bound to be more fun. Porsche will be faster.
I would have thought that the fun would win over fast.

I run a 996tt. Great car, especially the engine. But the Lotus is more precise and involving to drive, which is why we have these cars. Shout me down, but I've never really liked the look of the Evora - love the Elise & Exige though. Despite that, I'd be tempted with the Evora.

Nope, I can agree there are some parts of Evora design I don't like, mainly the roof line which is too high imho. However great cars to drive, just a shame more people don't try them

That said I've had 3 911's and also loved those cars.

Variety is the spice of life as they say

To the OP I see you have a Noble 3R, same as a friend of mine. He likes the Evora, as a kind of more modern, more luxurious version of the Noble. He also said if he had to have just one car he would have the Exige v6S which I previously owned and took on the lads Swiss Alps trip. Try them both (996TT and Evora) and see which floats your boat

On those miles it's hard not to have a look at the Evora S.

If mileage was equal then the 996 turbo would be my choice for build, performance and usability....especially in the wet!

The 996 was a 95k car and it shows plain and simple. I've only driven a normal evora and it was totally gutless next to my old 6turbo
Granted the evora steers well but the rest of the package and build quality Etc it's no contest

I get the build quality with the porsche but would this 90k miles bring some head aches . The evora is around the same money with less miles ?
I am test driving a evora today but a bit concerned on the power output 270 bhp ?

I remember driving a 996t on a track experience day ten years or so ago back to back with a fezza 360 and an elise, forget which one. The 996 was impressively quick albeit with elastic power delivery. The nimble feeling of the other two far out weighed the rather heavy feel of the porsche for driver involvement plus the interior felt tacky. Hopefully an Evora S will provide a good balance of pace and agility although as others have said it's a bit challenging in the looks department.

Depends how much you value the supposed build quality i guess. The 996's interior is hardly something you'd sit in and think "yeah, this is £90ks worth".

I am a Lotus fan and am happy to opt for some compromise if it means more fun, but the standard Evora doesn't look quite right to me. That orange one is nice; they've made some subtle changes to make the lines work a bit better. I've heard one with a decent exhaust and it sounded amazing - much better than any Porsche Turbo!

Certainly sounds like it's worth test driving one.

Don't know what age of Evora you test drove but there are 2 types of gearbox used on the N/A car, close ratio and standard. If I remember correctly the 1st/2nd are the same ratio and then they are different from 3rd onwards.

I had a N/A CR Evora a while back but never drove the Standard box but heard that the CR box is better for fast road and the standard box if better if you do a lot of motorway driving.

If you want a decent Evora exhaust then go for the 2bular ( http://www.2bular.co.uk/evora). One of the Scottish Elise owners SAJ has an Evora S with a 2bular and it sounds fantastic.

Amazing how many people say go for the evora considering I never see any on the roads ! Makes me think most are offering opinions on something they have not owned and would not own ?!

I always liked lotus but the choice nowadays is too broad and better from Porsche and even BMWs m cars that going off piest with the lotus is a bit of a gamble. No doubt it's good to drive on a back road on a Sunday with 2 people and no luggage but it can't do the all round things of a Porsche.

The Evora is a completely different kettle of Lotus when it comes down to being an "all round car". Mine was very much a weekend car however a lot of people use them as their everyday car. I even took mine from Scotland down to Florence in Italy (2 1/2 week tour of Europe). It handled the journey no issues (back roads and motorway) and certainly did not find any issue with luggage. The Evora's boot managed to handle a couple of weekend bags no issue and I put the other weekend bags in the rear (I had a 2+0 so it was ideal for this but 2+2 would have also have been fine).

The boot space is a little bit smaller than a 911 but its certainly a lot better than my previous Elise's were.

Definitely do not discount the Evora as an all round car as its certainly more capable.

I moved from the Evora to a Boxster Spyder, as a back to back comparison I would definitely say that the Porsche has got that little touch of ergonomics better, everything button you touch feels that little but nicer and more reassuring.

I don't understand how it can be a 2+2 with a mid-engined setup? Is the car as long as a transit or something?
