Hi, thinking of buying a used C4 991.2 with modest spec - has PDK, cruise, parking - but no seat heating. I know I'll really miss it but will cope. Does anyone think it's a major issue for selling/trading in later in life?

are you saving that much on a used one over specing a new one ?

I'd ask the same. That must be pretty damn new, is it an ex demo?

You could ask if it's retrofittable, but given i always use finance, i'd be weighing up the difference of this versus a car to the spec i would actually want.

Really good points, thank-you. I would only be saving a (very) few thousand, but after a previous purchase went wrong I'm now needing a car fairly quick and am not dead set on what I want - they're all good! I could spec new, but think the waiting time is several months? I'm going to investigate a bit more today.

oh and yes ex-demo...pretty odd not to put heated seats on it!

Porsche are pretty tight with discounts, but bear in mind they get to claim VAT back on ex demos...

It is a misconception that ex demos are great spec too. They have a defined budget, which is why in this case you're missing what seems like an obvious thing. Quite often they'll go with options that are more attention grabbing for those clients who purchase on an impulse!

My old man is exactly that sort of character, and he ended up having to have the PSE and rear camera installed afterwards on the ex demo he bought. If he'd one the maths, the 'great deal' he got probably cost him more in the long run.

Good advice, thanks. I don't want to wait several months, so will either go for this one or see what else is around but looks slim pickings...

I owned a 996T for 4 1/2 years which the first owner spent £93k on but didn't specify heated seats. Although I would have liked heat (my wife more so!), I never found it an issue and it sold to the first person who saw it.

I was in an OPC a couple of weeks ago, they showed me their list of unsold cars for the rest of the year. It was all Cayenne's apart from a couple of 911's. You might be just about able to order a car to spec for Dec build.

The only way you'll find a car is ringing round each OPC....even within dealer group's they are really bad at finding other cars in the system that might be available to your spec or a build slot. I am currently looking for a Cayenne and have had to do the legwork myself to look for cars. They also don't put very new demo's on the official Porsche site (not allowed to apparently)....they do list them in the PH classifieds or Auto Trader though.

Porsche are very good at making it seem like there are less cars around than there really are!

Thanks! I did do a search on PH, so if that has more ex-demos on it I guess it saves me ringing round. Think I might go for one with no heated seats - the rest of the car is lovely and as odd as it sounds, its not easy to find a gen2 for about 80k

My Cayenne is a bit like that. It was an ex-demo and has loads of extras, to the point where it feels like almost the only things missing are heated seats with memory.

I should probably clarify. I was told by one OPC that they put their demo's on PH when they can't put them on the official site. Whether that's true for all I don't know...

So may still be worth making some calls. Dealers all have "showroom" stock too which they rotate every few months obviously.

So I've heard that the best deal you could expect on a new 911 would be £2k to £2.5k off list. What would be a good target for a low mileage demonstrator once it is out of the 3 month commitment period? My local OPC had a very high spec .2 C2S - list price was over 105k and he dropped the price back to 95k. no idea how much it sold for.

Totally dependent on the car/spec/how many other cars they have/are you local (they would all rather sell to local customers) etc etc ....so many variables it's almost impossible to generalise.

They do put them on the official Porsche used car site...
I went to look at a car on Saturday that was on there - I didn't know it was unregistered, as it stated POA for mileage & price.

I think it shows how far Porsche and customers have moved away from the original 911 when a purchase decision is influenced by a lack of heated seats! My last 911 had pretty much zero extras - didn't even have a radio! Was equal best of the nine 911s I've owned (together with the 996 GT3).

I stand corrected then!

Although I think largely it's true. I saw a rather lovely 991 Turbo in Gulf Blue yesterday sat in an OPC showroom and that's not on the Porsche website!

Heated seats are the most pointless automotive invention ever.

The only effect is to make you believe that you have pissed yourself.

I've had heated seats on all my cayennes and consider it essential for resale albeit i hardly ever use it probably because my entire working career has been exposed to harsh physical working conditions in contrast to punters who spend their working lives in cushy heated office jobs.
However i don't have it on my GT4 and i don't miss it and i would never spec it on a GT porsche esp with alcantara bucket seats but on a spyder i would spec it,basically another case of horses for coursessmile
