I suspect I'm way behind with this, however should anyone not be aware, Vulcan XM603, which a couple of years ago wasn't long for this world and looking like this:

...is now looking, well...take a look for yourself:

Excellent!

If you wait until this weekend, then you'll be able to see another new exhibit that a friend of mine is delivering - "Aggie Paggie", the Anson G-AGPG used by Exko Avionics to test the Concorde Weather radar smile

That's great news. Have been going to the Woodford sim for years & it was looking very sorry for itself.

Lovely! I must get back to the Avro museum at some point. I was lucky enough to get a good look around inside XM603 back when I was an undergrad at Woodford in the early 90s; great that she's now looking even better than she did 25 years ago smile

Great to see her like that especially when, as mentioned before, a few years back there were threads on aviation forums about how 603 was in extremely poor condition wouldn't be around much longer when Woodford got sold off.

603 looks amazing.

Dare I say that she looks even better than 558???

The anti flash white suits the Vulcan perfectly.

I SO wished they had painted XH558 in Anti Flash white at the end of her career!

Now I notice it, 603 is a mk2 due to the kinked wings? I'd thought it was only ever straight winged Mk1s that were white? (obviously not as the museum obviously know what they're doing).
When did the change to camo occur?

If anyone is visiting this, 10 mins up the road is the Anson engine museum.

1964/65 with the switch to low level bombing.

Initially, the top surfaces were painted dark green/grey with anti-flash white undersides - all in gloss.

In the late 60s the undersides changed to light grey.

In the mid 1970s the colours were changed to matt finish with the white taken out of the RAF roundels and fin flashes.

In the late 70s the upper surface camouflage was extended to the entire undersides.
