windscreen cracked during an MOT
Discussion
bit of advice as to whether im being unreasonable, or if i should push this further
dropped my car off for its MOT this afternoon. failed on a couple of things, i'll fix them myself, not the issue
i paid for the MOT, got in my car and drove off. within 5 seconds of leaving i see a crack about 6 inches long on the bottom of the windscreen. the crack wasnt there when i dropped it off, and was not picked up on during the MOT. i turned around the talk to them about it, and was told it must have been a stone chip a while ago that just developed into a crack, not their fault. it happened whilst the car was in their care, and i was at home 2 miles away. he flat out refused to take any responsibility, no goodwill, just laughed and walked off (so either way, the owner is clearly a prick)
am i being unreasonable in wanting them to sort this for me?

what exactly is your issue here?
do you disagree that it's possible that the crack could have appeared through no fault of thier own?
or do you feel regardless how it happen they should be responsible because it was on thier care.
Personally i find it fairly unlikely that a crack could just appear, but not impossible, so it's a bit of an awkward situation all round.

my issue is that the car was in their care when the damage occured. it was not there before the MOT, but is after. its not cracked in the 2 years i owned the car, just the 2 hours they had itdo you disagree that it's possible that the crack could have appeared through no fault of thier own?

So what? I didn't have any issues with windscreens in over 20 years of driving and then suddenly needed 3 replacement windscreens on the same car over 18 months due to huge cracks. One happened overnight when th car was in my own locked garage, one was a small stone chip near the edge which developed into a huge crack while the car was parked outside the window of my office during the day and the other was a stone from the tyre of a lorry in front of me on the way home. Note that two out of the three happened while the car was just sitting there on its own. Just because it happened while your car was parked up in their lot doesn't mean it's their fault. Besides, most garages and car parks have signs up with disclaimers about any damage which may occur while one's car is parked there. Not everything in life is "someone's fault" you know.
I afraid these things happen.
Years ago my Grandads windscreen cracked while it was parked in his garage, we heard it & nobody was in there with it.
£100 or so XS & move on.
As others say, post a bad review, tell him he's a cock & get your retest elsewhere.
He won't care, you are fixing your own failure points anyway.
