He seems to be hungry all day, we are feeding him two pouches a day and a few Iams. Is this enough?
His name is Tom

He is lovely. Have a great time.

BTW do consider feeding raw if you can.. They eat less and enjoy it more.

The dietary requirements for the IAM's are on the packet. So many grams per day according to the weight of your cat. If you are giving him 2 wet pouches then supplement with 50% of the daily requirement of IAMs.

thumbup awesome, love rescue stories! Mine's on 3 -4 punches a day, depends on age I think. Boris is nearly 3 and eating far more than he was but my previous older mogs were quite happy on 2

We only give our lad one pouch in the morning and then a couple of small doses of IAM-style hard bits in the rest of the day. Two pouches plus the bits seems a lot to me.

It really depends on how much dry is being fed and how big the cat is. The wet food isn't usually the issue as much as the amount of dry food. Hopefully OP will reply soon smile!

Thanks for the replies. As said we are giving him 2 pouches and I guess just a couple of oz of Iams. He is an average size cat. It seems we should be giving him more?

2 pouches a day? Must be a bit cat - ours takes half in the AM, half PM and he's spot on for weight. That, with dry (biscuits) and the odd treat, he's a happy cat. But as others have said, they will eat ALL the time if allowed.

Out of our three, two will eat what they want then leave. The third will eat until the bowl is empty....

If you are giving 2oz (60g) then this should be more than enough along with the pouches and often too much when being fed with the wet food. Usually I would advise for e.g. a 4kg cat 2 sachets and 30g dry, obviously I would have seen the cat usually and taken more info about the cat and its lifestyle first.

Guessing dry food is a big error for many. It is essential to know how much he is actually getting to ensure he is on a suitable amount for his size, and average cat varies between 3-4.5kg which is a big difference, both these bits of info are needed to give as accurate a guide as poss. Sorry to nag but one of my jobs as a vet nurse was to advise on feeding, esp when the pets were overweight..and sometimes underweight smile!!

If it turns out he is on the correct amount then you know an increase in food isn't actually needed but distractions are (playing, interacting, not let him learn that seeking attention always gets him food as a reward). Cats should naturally be grazers but many aren't, I have had both types over the years!

I must admit to 'guessing' my pair of cats amount of dry food. One is just over 4kgs the other about 5.5kgs. The smaller car Isy gets just under a half a pouch in the AM and same PM whilst Ryu the bigger one will get the bigger half. I mix in some dry and leave some dry food down all day for them. It's a challenge sometimes to get both to eat as Ryu will quite happily eat his then wander over to eat Isy's whilst she just runs around! He is a little bit more stupid though so sometimes I cover Isy's bowl with a card or magazine. She can work it out to remove but Ryu often can't.

Our two get a pouch each in the morning and the evening, along with their biscuits which are topped up when they are low, they seem to eat the biscuits as and when they are hungry between the pouches, neither of them are overweight. My experience of cats is they will eat when they need to unlike dogs who will eat everything all the time if able to.

It isn't such a problem if the cat is a grazer and not overweight but if they guzzle every last bit and are a wee bit chubby, or they are new to you it becomes more of a necessity

Oh, he is gorgeous!!!!

Ours get 1/4 of a tin of Sheba each in the morning & evening (so about 25g)

They can then graze on their biscuits. Neither bolt their food & both will leave the wet until they are hungry. They very rarely do the 'feed me now' dance we all know & love

Pepi is just under a stone, and we get told by the Nurse he's overweight, but we disagree as he's 1/2 Bengal & a big cat! (Bengals are usually 10-15lbs) but I'd be interested in your thoughts Bex please?

Beauty is tiny & the perfect weight for her size although she appears to eat more biscuits than him, we rarely see him at the biscuits

Minnie's a bit of a fussy eater. Anything other than Gourmet and she turns her nose up at it. Loves her Purina One and Dreamies biscuits and the New "Soups" that have just come out.

Difficult to know without looking at him Ali (I assess based on visual and using my hands!!) but if you manage to grab a pic from above him and side on that would be useful. I suspect 6kg maybe his ideal weight as tbh most pure bengals we see are 6-7kg (7kg being top end and usually sl too heavy if I'm honest!!)

Ryu the bigger eater is big but not overweight. He prefers to eat the wet, and despite mixing them, I will often find his bowl with left over dry bits. Isy on the other hand is less fussy and prefers the dry. Eating out of each other bowl is not too much of a problem as Isy will eat the dry before Ryu has eaten both wet/mixed bowls and is hungry again to eat the dry bowl.
