The 12,000 mile Sierra Cosworth RS500
Discussion
Another week, another classic that looks set to break records
This two owner, 12,000 mile RS500 is going under the hammer next month and is estimated to make 60-70k: https://revmatch.me/2016/11/18/sierra-cosworth-rs5...
I can see this one touching £100,000
What do you reckon it'll make?

£75-80K for me, as always depends who is in the room.
Have you seen this one for £200K for sale build number 001...

this must be the record (if it ever sells)
Apparently build by ford not Tickford?
Either way the prices of fast fords are crazy these days.

Having witnessed the v low mileage Merc 190E 2.5-16 Evo ll sell for £260k before premium and VAT at the Silverstone Auctions Race Retro sale nothing would surprise me. It was estimated at £140-160k which I thought was bonkers - shows how little I know.
Get the right two people bidding and the sky's the limit. I wouldn't be surprised at £100k as this looks reasonable against the Merc price as both are the ultimate expression of their breed.
As for chassis number 1 at £200k, the fact it has been re-shelled must affect its ability to command a huge premium?

One of my friends, sadly now deceased last year had his Escort Cosworth sold at auction earlier this year. It had less than 1000 miles on the clock and he had purchased the car new. I believe it sold for 75k.
He had a fairly extensive car collection which also included his Mercedes gullwing which sold in the same auction. That sold for about 750k or thereabouts.
As for the owner of the collection of around thirty or forty cars, an extremely pleasent polite Gentleman, sadly missed.

Sorry to probe but did he die young in an accident of some sort or of old age? If it was the latter and you're on your death bed, why would you not enjoy the car even more before you kick the bucket instead of looking at it sat in a garage. Seems a huge waste for his cars to have been sold at auction after he passed away without having properly driven them for what they are.He had a fairly extensive car collection which also included his Mercedes gullwing which sold in the same auction. I don't mean to cause offence and apologies for being blunt.
No offence taken, Kingsley was a true car enthusiast, I asked him about his diverse and eccentric car collection. ' If I liked the look of a car I purchased it' was his reply. Parkedext to his Gullwing was a Ford Anglia 105E, almost new condition, I asked why it was that he purchased this particular car and parked it next to his Gullwing. He told me that his daughter wanted to have a 105E for her wedding car! No doubt the gullwing was a old banger in her eyes at that point in her time.
His lifelong and very diverse collection also included a steam traction engine, Bentley 3lt open tourer, Austin 7, and many other cars. I asked how it was such a diverse collection, ' I just bought cars that I really loved, and couldn't bear to sell’.
Kingsley passed having lived well into his 70's in September 2015, he was a multi millionaire likely billionaire, and yet he was never more happy to be in his boiler suit driving his traction engine at steam rallies. A true enthusiast.
