The good people of PH's,

One of my dipped beam bulbs went earlier on my car and I'm in two minds what to do.

Option 1 - To upgrade all bulbs to Osram Night Breakers.

Option 2 - To buy a cheapish (under £50) HID kit and get someone ti fit it.

What would you do?

If the car has reflector enclosures not designed to take them, please don't fit HIDs.

The question then in summary is -

Do I buy some Night Breakers or do I break the law and blind everyone coming towards me?

I would go with the Night Breakers. If you aren't some chav with a total disregard for anyone else then you will do the same.

I was swaying towards the night breakers as I have never had car with a HID kit.

Where is doing the best deal on night breakers at the moment?

It should be legal to kick in the headlamps of any car fitted with HiD if they do not have all the gubbins to go with it.

A hammer is easier, but yes laugh

Depending on which bulbs you have, Osram now have a Night Breaker Unlimited Laser and Philips have a Racing Vision, both the latest and brightest.

Thanks I ended up going for eurocarparts.

I have ordered dipped and main beam night breakers.

The night breakers don't come in a side light version so will have to do some research and see what the best one's to go with are. The standard sidelights will be a completely different shade to the night breakers.

I was looking to order a set of Osram Nightbreakers then noticed some info in the sales blurb on ECP which caught my eye:

In order to achieve the improved performance, upgrade bulbs such as Night Breaker Laser have a revised filament geometry and this does inevitably mean some reduction in life. The actual life will be dependent on the operating conditions and in particular the supply voltage

Can anyone on here confirm how long these brighter Night Breaker bulbs last, or not as the case may be, when compared to standard filament bulbs which may well be cheaper?

I had nightbreakers in my last car for the full two and a half years I owned it and they didn't fail. The car had auto headlights too, which means they were on a lot of the time when I might not have switched the on manually.

If they go brighter they must burn hotter to do so, of course they will not last as long.

I had a set of Night Breakers that didn`t manage a year in my old Accord. I replaced them with the Philips alternative (Vision+ I think which were better but more expensive).

I feel your pain regarding halogen lights but yeah as many others have said dont be a dick and fit aftermarket kits, its firstly illegal/insurance may be void too and its just a general pain in the ass to others.

Regarding nightbreakers etc - they will make some difference but not much - they will "look" much better though with the whiter light

Had no problems with the night breakers so far and you can certainly notice the difference between them and a standard bulb. Still searching for a good DRL bulb to match in color.

If your car uses W5W sidelight bulbs, these were a good match with mine
